Students are suing Apple for deciding not to ship a wall charger with the iPhone 12

Personally, I've never needed one for the past few years. I connect to my computer anyway
because I prefer slow charging. Plus, considering how fast people "upgrade" they should have
a drawer full of these bricks.
The 5w charger that came with my previous iPhones has a USB type A port, but starting with the iPhone 12 they didn't come with a charger, but came with a USB-type C to Lightning cable which isn't compatible with any of their old chargers. If Apple was trying to save the polar bears by reducing waste saying people will likely have a charger already why would they include a cable incompatible with their previous chargers? If they wanted to save waste using the previous-charger excuse they shouldn't have included a cable either and they should have given people the option to get a phone with a charger and cable in the same box.

Yeah, the so-called students are just trying to win the lottery like most people and companies that sue apple.

Who needs a charger when you have 100 cables from older phones + wireless charging anyway.

NO PHONE should come with a wall-charger in the box. If you need one, you buy one. This would make sense these days.

The usb cable is still included, so people needs to stfu.

You need to learn to read before telling people to stfu. The students are only asking for enough money to buy a charger and for Apple to cover the legal fees. $15 is hardly winning the lottery. Also Apple said the reason why they didn't include the charger was because people likely have chargers from previous iPhones, but none of their previous chargers are compatible with the included cable.

I hope that lawsuit is tossed out.

You KNEW before you purchased the phone that it DIDN’T come with a charger.

The judge should shred your lawsuit and ridicule you.

"Not including a charger is good for the enviroment" say the *****s that buy a device they don't even need that's incrementally better than the one they have.

In essence you have to pay $30 extra to get what you could get previously for the price of the phone alone.
Converting euros to dollars I had to spend $60 on this. $30 for the quick charger (of course without a cable because f u) and then another $30 for a lightning cable. Highway robbery.

In my drawer: tonnes of Android USB-C adapters and cables.

Spoken like a true Apple fanboy. In your eyes they can do no wrong.

Empty headed much? I don't own a single Apple product. Learn to read in context - oh wait - they stop teaching that in school... Ok, maybe learn to ask before inserting your foot into mouth.

The fact that they include a lightning cable and not a USB cable that basically every charger in the world uses really undermines the environment saving argument.
But knowing the company, their marketing is a bunch of two-faced lies anyway, so keep the lawsuits coming, I'd say.

Even if it leads to nothing I think this outcry should continue to show the phone manufacturers we aren't going to take this nonsense anymore. Some countries legally require headphones or a charger in the box, all countries should be doing this.

Maybe, but they're trendsetters. I don't get why people accept half of the things Apple does, but I guess they either don't know or don't understand what is happening. This is how we get the "if it works for Apple then we should do it too" issue.
Really though, it's something we have to get used to as technology changes. I remember when Dell was the trend setter in removing floppy drives from their desktops. I kept thinking *but how will I update the BIOS?!* and now that doesn't matter anymore. CD drives were also removed from computers as well as more and more people moved to flash drives or internet storage. So once useful things go away, and it makes innovation for more use of other (sometimes better) things. Someone will always need to be the first to remove it before others will follow. Just part of getting older really.

Personally, I have an iPhone 6S that somehow still works. I find it handy to have the headphone jack, but I'm just a tech person who uses all sorts of things that most people don't anymore.

This is true. If they are really care about environment, they would supporting computer until it die. Instead of cutting off security updates to force you buy new one when old one is hardware is still fine. If Linux can support device forever, Apple should being able to.

Its funny that the people suing are also likely after profit and not really because of the inconvenience. I can't say for others, but I've never really used the charger that comes with my phone/ tablet or laptop (using type C charger) generally, whether they are from Samsung, Apple, Lenovo, etc. Apple or any companies can stop this waste of giving chargers that some may not use by giving people the option to buy a charger at a discounted rate if they can show proof of device ownership. So people that want a charger with their devices, can get it from Apple or Samsung or whatever companies. It may seem like extra cost, but frankly, the companies can mark up their device sale prices just to provide the charger if they want to.

The difference is that those transitions made sense at the time and were smoother and easier to accomplish. It wasn't considered a "courageous" move. The audio jack isn't obsolete and it certainly wasn't a pro-consumer move like Apple is trying to tell others.

I believe that people wouldn't have had such a big problem with it if they just gave more honest reasons why they did it (easier manufacturing process, cheaper bill of materials, faster design/product prototype iterations, etc), but Apple's official excuses are frankly insulting.

"Chinese students" are not suing Apple on their own. Those "Chinese students" who somehow "spontaneously organized themselves" were of course organized by their top competitor. And who would that be? I don't know, maybe we could create an ALPHABETical list of potential candidates?

May be following the lawsuit, Apple might be intelligent enough to release a new edition called the 'charger edition'.
