OK, so I know nothing about computers, nothing that counts anyway. My computer has one or more viruses, and I need to get rid of them. The only problem is, my mother (the Pc's owner) won't spend any money on virus protection. Any free programs out there that actually work and get rid of the virus? I have about three free one's but they don't delete viruses, they only tell you what you have. AND! They all come up with different viruses and some don't even detect anything...
What do I do???
tell you mother that they are essential. As Po'girl says, go to THIS LOCATION and scan your pc. its free, and it isn't as difficult as it appears
have a look at these. you can get free av protection and firewalls.
AVG free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1) or Avast (http://www.avast.com/) antivirus programmes.
It is possible to use only freeware and have a good defence against malware. In fact alot of paid for software don't match up to the capabilities of certain freeware. I personally use freeware myself and haven't been infected ever since I joined techspot and got my system cleaned. (Though that's not very long)

Should you decide to clean your computer, please go ahead to Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and follow the steps given. Do follow all the instructions exactly. They will provide logs for analysis of your system so I will know how to instruct you to proceed.
Thereafter, please post freshHijackThis, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread. Do not copy and paste your logs if not it will be ignored and/or removed.
Also, please let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan
