There’s no shortage of iOS keyboards to choose from since Apple opened up third-party keyboard support in iOS 8. One of the more popular options, Nuance's Swype, released a major update on Tuesday that includes support for several different languages and more.
Swype version 1.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch delivers support for 16 new languages, joining the five previously supported languages. Now, Swype supports Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, UK English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hinglish, Hungarian, Irish, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish Swedish, and Turkish (Hinglish is a hybrid of Hindi and English – yeah, I had to look it up too).
The updated app now supports QWERTY, QWERTZ and AZERTY layouts on the iPhone and iPad. What’s more, all Swype themes are now available on Apple’s tablet free of charge. Other small changes include a new auto-space feature and the ability to turn on audio feedback for key presses.
Elsewhere, Swype can now automatically suggest emoji based on the words you enter – you know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Swype will set you back $0.99 in the App Store (Update: Swype is currently free for a limited time). If you’ve tried and liked Swype on Android, odds are you’ll be happy with the iOS implementation. If not, perhaps another third-party option like SwiftKey or Fleksy might better suit your needs.
Of course, Apple has done a lot to improve their default keyboard in iOS 8 so you might want to give that a try before turning to a third-party solution.
