Parenting and the state of the family unit are what give birth to society. What you see in the world today is the net product of Generation X's parenting. Before them, the Baby Boomers. So on and so forth throughout history. Society is the effect, parenting is the cause.

If the profound philosophical abilities of the Millenials are any indication, I suspect GTA will only be the first in a long list of such bans to roll out over the next several years. This assumes, of course, that third wave feminism isn't thoroughly crushed and relegated to the annals of Wikipedia over the same time period.

Which is my point! Not everyone subscribes to the good parenting, which in turn creates a good society. It is a chicken or the egg scenario, of which you are only looking at it one direction. Truth be told society is exactly the way people want it, screwed up (history proves it).

Basically, it's yet another bunch of SJW with no jobs (government allowance allows this) and plenty of time to come up with junk on the Internet. No one yet knows why they aimed at Target only, and why after all the game series and time GTA5 has been available.

Also, if you check the comments on the original petition, half of them are people +1'ing the petition just so they can have the ability to write a comment like "this is freaking stupid".

The reason was because of some promo. I think GTA V was next to some Lego and had a "best price guarantee". The women who started the petition saw GTA V vids on youtube where some guys were "beating hookers" and drew the long bow that the game "encouraged" beating women when in fact is doesn't encourage it. It just allows it.

Disclaimer: I've never played GTA - don't really know much about it.

Having said that, on one hand you think personal responsibility. Personally, I would like a world capable of that responsibility. But frankly, we are not. So because there are irresponsible parents, the PC brigade comes along and says "Well this is obviously a problem - if parents were all responsible, it wouldn't be a problem. So instead we are going to make laws to make up for parental or societal deficiency/stupidity."

Don't agree with it. Society should have better education. That would solve a lot more problems and not get to bandaids like this.

Just because its a videogame doesn't mean its made for kids.

If they put GTA5 in the porn section where only adults can go to help show its mature rating would it sink in then? Probably not.

Well, another installment of the "Sin City" franchise, was recently released on Blu-Ray and DVD. Plus, we've had, "Criminal Minds", as a serial fixture on CBS for, I believe, ten years running. Criminals Minds is about the sickest minds on the planet, who entertain serial killing as an avocation, and contains some of the most sadistic violence ever, yet it returns every year. (They may have killed it this year with the Addition of Jennifer Love Hewitt to the cast. Her big behind, and particularly her flat affect in acting, murdered my enthusiasm for the show, so to speak).

But with any TV show or movie, the violence isn't interactive. You can't pick up a controller and start blasting cast members with an Uzi, or run them over with a beemer. Even though, as in the case of Ms. Hewitt, you feel it might be warranted.

But doesn't Sin City have a few chicks who murderize wave after wave of henchmen? Having not seen the films, I can only assume the women shown in the previews were Social Justice compliant. As for TV... I practically never watch TV, outside of Netflicks. All of this is news to me. Even so, CBS is not We or Oxygen or HGTV or TLC. How many SJWs watch CBS? For Christ's sake, CBS broadcasts the Supreme Sexism and Misogyny League NFL! Besides, your description of Criminal Minds makes it sound right up their alley. What do you think is more likely to cause a young male to act violent towards Women™: simulating violence in a game, or conditioning him to solve problems by shoving a gun in someone's face and never providing an outlet for the conditioned behavior? Games create dysfunctional adolescents. Television creates time bombs.

Yes not a great fan of the PC everywhere. Can understand minorities being quite sensitive and in some cases sure they are still being wronged but for me it should be about intent.

If someone is absolutely obsessed about something from their past, and are oversensitive to it from ppl who didn't intend to offend them that way, that's bad on two counts. They are letting that define them and they are taking it out on ppl who meant no such offense. That's when I struggle to have time for the PC brigade.

The thing is that the people against the game dont have a fundamental understanding of what it is; a make-believe, satiric GAME thats supposed to be for ADULTS. And that the game does not specifically encourage violence against women but against all people. the player CHOOSES how to play and if the player chooses to attack women specifically instead of just anyone else, thats his/her problem, not something the game taught them.

Dont buy the game. boycott it, warn your friends against it, dont buy the game for children you dinguses, and rebel against it, I dont care-but dont spoil it for people who actually understand what it is.

In defense of the Protestants, American society has since descended into a state of relative decadence.

Well, people need a common enemy, it's the glue holding any society together.

We had the Russians to hate, and the "cold war", with which to channel that animosity.

George Orwell's "1984", has a perpetual war with, "Eurasia" in progress. (Incidentally "1984" was the year we elected Ronald Regan as president).

The music of four decades ago was viewed as subversive, yet it preached peace, love, and equality. The Jefferson Airplane were the first pop act to drop "the F bomb" on a record. Their famous line, "up against the wall, mother f****r, was in protest to the pervasive, "stop and frisk whoever you like, whenever you like", pervasive police policies of the day.

In hindsight, that, "one small step for rock music, one giant leap against censorship", unfortunately led to the overwhelmingly racist, violent, and profane "hip-hop" music of the present. IMHO, music has worsened race relations in the US, more than any other force or influence.

Quite frankly, music is still the "boogeyman", and it has done contemporary society irreparable harm.

I believe that somewhere in Plato's, "Republic", he warns that, "enemies of the state will try to subvert the youth through music", (Loosely quoted, as I'm not up for a 500+ page fact check for the sake of this post, sorry).

In any event, army special forces teams, and the like, (as one such member related to me), needed to have a special characterization afforded to them by the MMPI (psych eval test), and that was, "true sociopaths who liked to operate as a group". Before that, sociopathy was viewed as an individual, "sport".

It really isn't a question that video gaming creates aggression, but it seems to channel it as well, combined with a healthy outlet for it. Those who believe it should cross over into real life, should investigate the possibility of a career as a Navy Seal, or Delta Force team member. "The Army Wants You", or so the recruiting poster says.

Unless of course, you're a 90 pound internet geek, with social integration issues already severe enough to be considering blowing up your high school and killing everybody in it. Then by all means, nobody should sell you violent video games. My question is, "how the heck would you check for that in advance"?
