Has the thought of collaborating on TechSpot ever crossed your mind? If so, here's an opportunity to join our editorial team. If you have a passion for technology and have the necessary writing skills, give us a shout. We are looking for at least two part-time editors. These are paid positions, more information after the jump.

Update: Special thanks to everyone who has contacted us for the job openings. I'm glad to report that we've received a good number of qualified applicants so far, more than I expected which is awesome to say the least. You should be hearing from us in the next 48 hours, so we can take in all applications at once and move forward with the process.

Now, a couple of reminders... we have two giveaways currently open. The first for those of you who like us on Facebook, you can win an Acer netbook. The second, for community regulars who can access the Tech Exchange, if you post something for sell or trade before the end of the month, you can win a MSI X-Slim laptop. And by the way, two very generous members of our community are giving away three entry-level Radeon graphics cards, props to Leeky and red1776!

As you are probably be aware, our Desktop PC Buying Guide is kept up to date on an on-going basis. Matthew posted his latest update last week, so expect fresh content there at all times for your reference whenever you need it. I can't emphasize enough the importance of your support getting the word out there about our three buying guides. We work very hard on them and will appreciate if you can recommend them to your friends, family, and social networking contacts.

Other things to look forward to this week: After much controversy on its first installment, Kane & Lynch 2 is getting a multi-platform release this week. Also GamesCom will open its doors in Cologne, Germany, where Blizzard is expected to showcase Diablo III.

TechSpot news writer position - Do you have what it takes?

  • We are looking for at least two news writers that are driven and self-motivated when it comes to computers and technology. Being a regular reader of TechSpot is not a requirement but certainly a big plus.
  • We need you to be active, posting at least 5 stories per week. Payments are made per post, so the more the better. Further incentives will be given based on post quality, traffic and number of comments.
  • You must be proficient in English and grammar. An approval process will be enforced until you are settled in and get a better grasp of what’s needed.
  • Geographic location is not a constraint, but ideally we want at least one editor based in Europe so we can do a better job covering different time zones.
  • Topics we usually cover on TechSpot include: computer hardware and software, Internet applications and services, IT industry in general, mobile devices, PC and console gaming.

If you are interested and would like to learn more please email us. Thank you.

Damn it! I live in England and I really want the News Writers Job, Just a shame I can't write very well.

Anyway why are Leeky and Red giving away graphics cards? and how do I join in on this?

Burty, Leeky and Red are giving away a couple entry-level cards to folks stuck on an IGP or really dated GPU. You can find more information here: The Tech Exchange

GonchuB, you're welcome to apply. We're looking for two editors, with *one* preferably in Europe.

There is a link to the email addresses at the end of the post.

@ Julio's original post
I would consider doing the position, but I'm not sure if I've been a member long enough to be allowed to apply. It seems right up my street since I start my IT degree in September, and the two would go hand in hand. :)

P.S. I've sent an email in the meantime regarding these positions anyway. :)

I can't speak for everyone else mentioned, but since I'm going to be purchasing a GTX460 shortly, I really don't need to be worrying about the HD3650 thats been sat in its box since I replaced it with my current HD4670.

It didn't cost me anything as such (was in a new build), so seems fitting to offer it for free.

I applied through e-mail. Hopefully I'll hear back from you guys soon.

Very nice job on the buying guides. One question for Matthew is why not SLI or Crossfire for the Luxury System? If money isn't an object, might as well load up on GPU's, right? ;)

Good question Tom. The Luxury system doesn't have a budget cap, but we still try to keep it as balanced as possible.

As you surely know, the Radeon HD 5970 is essentially two HD 5870s on one card. Although running two separate 5870s may offer a bit more performance (or so I think, I haven't looked at benchmarks in a while), the 5970 can currently handle any game that comes to mind.

In other words, dual 5870s is overkill in my opinion. You'd be paying more for unused frames. Not to mention the extra power draw, heat generation, and chassis space used. The same applies to dual GTX 480s... except even more power, heat etc.

That said, it could be mentioned as an option off the table. Thanks a ton for the feedback :).

I've sent my email. Maybe I can break up the lost hours in between studying. Not looking forward to Obama paying me less for my expensive education.

Well while I'm not interested in the writing gig - I certainly recommend your guides to plenty of people asking about getting a laptop or building a PC. And I reference the PC building guide regularly. :D. Just letting you know all the hard work does not go to waste :D and thx for writing them.

•You must be proficient in English and grammar.
This just thinned out the ranks faster than Russian artillary at the Battle of Balaclava
An approval process will be enforced until you are settled in and get a better grasp of what’s needed.
And a quickly administered coup de grace for the non fact checking, article slanting survivors.

I'm an English teacher that has above average to excellent writing skills. I currently reside in Korea. I used to work in IT management and can even read elementary Korean on their tech websites. I also read Techspot during my breaks in between lessons at school almost every day. I'm also an avid gamer, owning a multitude of Nintendo DS, PS3 and PC titles. I'm always checking out new tech and apps for my PC and iPod, It would be great to write for you guys, but it seems that the link to your e-mail address does not function correctly, so I'm posting here.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm glad to report back that we've received a good number of qualified applicants so far, more than I expected which is awesome to say the least :)

@TomSEA & Matt on the graphics cards, we are publishing our review of GTX 460 SLI boards soon which should make it clear whether it's a viable option versus the Radeon 5970.
It should be said though that when money is no object a single faster GPU is always the better alternative because of games that don't receive the multi-GPU treatment on time. Then if you have the funds, scaling up to two cards of that single fastest GPUs is the next up.
