Burty, Leeky and Red are giving away a couple entry-level cards to folks stuck on an IGP or really dated GPU. You can find more information here: The Tech Exchange

GonchuB, you're welcome to apply. We're looking for two editors, with *one* preferably in Europe.

There is a link to the email addresses at the end of the post.

    @ Julio's original post
I would consider doing the position, but I'm not sure if I've been a member long enough to be allowed to apply. It seems right up my street since I start my IT degree in September, and the two would go hand in hand. :)

P.S. I've sent an email in the meantime regarding these positions anyway. :)

I can't speak for everyone else mentioned, but since I'm going to be purchasing a GTX460 shortly, I really don't need to be worrying about the HD3650 thats been sat in its box since I replaced it with my current HD4670.

It didn't cost me anything as such (was in a new build), so seems fitting to offer it for free.
  7. I applied through e-mail. Hopefully I'll hear back from you guys soon.

Very nice job on the buying guides. One question for Matthew is why not SLI or Crossfire for the Luxury System? If money isn't an object, might as well load up on GPU's, right? ;)

Good question Tom. The Luxury system doesn't have a budget cap, but we still try to keep it as balanced as possible.

As you surely know, the Radeon HD 5970 is essentially two HD 5870s on one card. Although running two separate 5870s may offer a bit more performance (or so I think, I haven't looked at benchmarks in a while), the 5970 can currently handle any game that comes to mind.

In other words, dual 5870s is overkill in my opinion. You'd be paying more for unused frames. Not to mention the extra power draw, heat generation, and chassis space used. The same applies to dual GTX 480s... except even more power, heat etc.

That said, it could be mentioned as an option off the table. Thanks a ton for the feedback :).

I've sent my email. Maybe I can break up the lost hours in between studying. Not looking forward to Obama paying me less for my expensive education.

Well while I'm not interested in the writing gig - I certainly recommend your guides to plenty of people asking about getting a laptop or building a PC. And I reference the PC building guide regularly. :D. Just letting you know all the hard work does not go to waste :D and thx for writing them.

This just thinned out the ranks faster than Russian artillary at the Battle of Balaclava
And a quickly administered coup de grace for the non fact checking, article slanting survivors.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm glad to report back that we've received a good number of qualified applicants so far, more than I expected which is awesome to say the least :)

You should be hearing from us on the next 48 hours, so we can take in all applications at once and move forward with the process.

@TomSEA & Matt on the graphics cards, we are publishing our review of GTX 460 SLI boards soon which should make it clear whether it's a viable option versus the Radeon 5970.
It should be said though that when money is no object a single faster GPU is always the better alternative because of games that don't receive the multi-GPU treatment on time. Then if you have the funds, scaling up to two cards of that single fastest GPUs is the next up.
