Terminated RPC Process. Can't boot PC now

It's looping me back to setup because the installation was never finished... I can't boot in regular mode at all to get the error (I forgot exactly what it said, but it's the normal blue screen error seen on computers that i've been on), and I can't boot in safemode because the "setup was not complete"

That said, I am going to have to find a new CD. Hopefully I can have one by the end of the day, we'll see though.

This sounds liek a hard drive issue. Can you swap the hard drive with another one? If so, try a fresh Windows installation. If that works then the old hard drive is flacky.

I am going to have to find a new CD.

I think this is a good place to start. Your problem has completely changed from the one you began the thread with. I don't think it's an issue with the hard drive. There was no indication of that. You may have cause some damage with a bad CD, but I doubt it trashed the HD.

Yes, all these symptoms are more likely due to a bad hard drive than 2 separate issues. The logical approach at this point is to swap the hard drive and see if the symptoms disappear.

Yes, it is possible to have 2 separate problems both contributing to a common symptom. I had that a few times since I started my own business. I'd figure one problem and got that working but the the bigger symptom persisted. I then determined there was another unrelated problem that contributed to it. Once, I had a customer with *3* unrelated problems causing him an Internet issue. It can happen. But it's UNCOMMON!

What makes sense here is that there's something wrong with the hard drive. That would explain all the resetting and errors. The possibility that the installation CD is bad, although Ive encountered that, is uncommon and separate. Let's focus on the most likely cause at the point and that is the hard drive.

Now there is another possibility that I forgot to ask about. Immortal, did you reformat the partition before you tried the re-installation? This could be a file system corruption problem. Seen that many times.

Then try a "chkdsk /r" in Recovery Console. If it reports it found errors and fixed them, retry the Windows repair and see if it works. if the CHKDSK found nothing, then we'll presume there is a problem with the hard drive itself or the Windows installation CD.

Repost with results.

Unless there's a way to cancel the install, I can't get to the recovery console. But before doing the windows repair I did a dskchk.. Nothing was wrong.

So, right now I just have to get another disk and hope that works. Otherwise, I don't know.

I'm looking to get the disk by the end of the day, I will report back when I get it.

Then you need to get your hands on another hard drive, swap it in and try installing Windows on it.

Is there a way for me to just cancel the installation process even thuogh it's not finished? since it keeps getting hung up.

Great news... Got a different CD and the install finished perfectly. The computer is in a running state now... It's still kind of messed up because the settings and that aren't what they were, but this is an excuse to reformat. That said, I'm gathering drivers and apps and this Wednesday my brother will be out and I'll have a legal windows copy and a reformatted computer running 110%!

Thanks for the help guys, it's appreciated. I can do the rest from here.

Since you got back to a running state, try finding the diagnostic program for the hard drive manufacturer and test your hard drive. it is possible you have 2 simultaneous problems. It's rare but I've encountered a few customers where they actually 2 simultaneous problems bot causing the same symptom. I had one customer once, he had 3!! Drove me nuts!!

Test your hard drive before proceeding with a Windows re-installation.

I am so glad to hear this. It's always best to start with the most obvious and most conservative instead of a major overhaul! Backup everything you can first, then do the reinstall. You can adjust the settings then. Be sure to get ample security back on the system.
