The 10 Most Anticipated PC Games of 2019

History has thought us the more you hype up a game, the harder it falls flat.

I'm not keeping my hopes up. But that won't stop the gamers rushing in and buying it (Cyberpunk) on Day 1.

Hype is the new marketing.

What about Atomic Heart? It's aimed for 2019 on Steam page and there are system req. there already:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/668580/Atomic_Heart/

I don't know what's the story it will tell, what's the mechanics it will show, but thanks to very unusual, fresh level design and npcs look and matching music, I personally tend to name it my #1 for the nearest future.

It somehow managed to tickle the memories of what I felt in Bioshocks, Dishonored, Wolfensteins and Metro: Exodus (mm.. Thief series, probably).

It looks less solid than Cyberpunk'77, for sure, but I didn't like the latter too much in his 40+ mins long gameplay demo actually. It may probably change since there's a lot of time till the end of the year.

It definitely looks interesting, had my eye on it for a while now.

If you search for Atomic Heart on youtube, then you will find references to that this game probably you'll never able to play, the gameplay they showed was a pure CGI, not an actual gameplay.
Long story short: They had a great idea, but according to the devs, the game was went through many iterations and the game style keeps changing sometimes a 180 degree change, because senior management can't decide what they want.
There is hope to be true, but more likely it will be a major disappointment in game style and content, also I'm happy to be proved wrong.

No strategy games?

What is Total War?
While some knows that Total War series is a (Turn Based) Strategy game, Real Time Strategy players tend to not call it strategy game, but calling them by their names or simply Turn Based Game, where areas this is not right(?!), this is how it's working nowadays.

Rage 2 is close (and will not be an Epic Exclusive \o/) and CP2077 is interesting, I remember when one of my teacher showed me a piece of video of it back in 2013 and the graphics was way advanced than Crysis back in the day. Also there were rumours where ppl though that it would be released in 2077 just to make it more interesting.

I knew it, but Steam page sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

What it does make is that the game is being anticipated. They could release it as it is, polish it later, or they could have been bought by someone else after release to make a candy out of it with the 2nd try. They just need to keep the best part of the devs / management, while getting rid of those who slows down the process.

Honestly I wish I could! I'm play testing three ARPG betas (Wolcen, Last Epoch and Pagan Online) and all of them are disappointing in one way or another. The WASD movement in Last Epoch is awesome though. I liked your article, I'm not blaming you for the trend in PC gaming. The only FPS games I enjoy are competitive MP. Finding a story driven single player game I like is astonishingly difficult. I absolutely loved Frost Punk but story is minimal in that title. XCOM 3 has to be my most anticipated game of all time but I guess they haven't officially announced it yet to avoid hurting sales of Phoenix Point.
Oh, no worries, I didn't take offense! I was asking for recommendations out of personal interest, because all of the games on this list are titles I'm interested in and they're really the only decent games I'm aware of that are releasing anytime soon.

Bummer to hear about Wolcen, I saw it on Steam and thought it looked quite good. Would you be able (not sure if your play testing has any NDAs attached) to tell me what about it has disappointed you?

Wolcen has an incredibly simple skill system and I haven't seen enough gear that transforms a playstyle. It's not a bad title but doesn't bring anything new to the genre and the beta is on year 2 which isn't a good sign. The movement mechanics feel way better than POE but not as good as D3. The graphics are quite good and the rift-like system in the current beta is fun. It's worth trying but it's nowhere close to D3 in terms of build diversity.

Pagan Online has a lot going for it. It's the dev team behind the World of Tanks/Ships titles. It has an excellent implementation of WASD based movement. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first but was pleasantly surprised by amazing skill shots and evasion based fighting. The problem with Pagan is a simple progress tree with very few abilities and the character unlock system limits people to a single character until you get to the assassination missions (Sort of like Warframe). It's early in their beta so I expect a lot to change.

Last Epoch looks and plays like POE which is not a compliment. If you hate the mechanics and lack of weight to strikes in POE then you'll be similarly frustrated with Last Epoch. To be fair, it's also early in Beta and doesn't have the budget of the two above titles.

The real dream would be if Blizzard had the POE dev team working on D3. The way POE does their leagues is so creative and I applaud GGGs ambition in the genre. The problem for many people is that POE has the worst feeling mechanics of any ARPG. I also hate the currency, trade and crafting systems. I actually think trade is a bad thing in these types of games unless you're in the same party (I love that about D3). The more of these games I play the more I realize how much work went into D3. The combat mechanics and movement of the Monk in D3 are the best in the business. Dashing strike, cyclone, and Exploding palm have no equal in any other game. Why can't any other dev make abilities that teleport through walls!?!?!?! I've played every class in D3 for at least a season and love almost all of them because "it just feels fun". D3s biggest problem is that endgame is just GR Push fishing, season after season. GGG keeps their game fresh, kudos to them.

None of these are really on my radar, because "1-timers" are not my thing.

Total War will be a nice game set to play with. But I like to play games or platforms long term. And I've done ARMA for 5+ years, Insurgency, BF, CSGO, etc... none of these shooters look interesting, because they are arcade based gunplay. (WAR3 gets a mention, but that game is in alpha and a long way off.)

Everquest is 20 years old and was the epitome of online competitive squad play, but standing today the game had it's limits. So I came across this gem called Pantheon (Rise of the fallen) and it quickly became one of my top most anticipated games I want to play. Just one quick read through the game's tenets is enough to get any old school juices flowing.

I wish there ware more group strategy games out there. I hope the new GPU and CPUs coming out this year, will foster in some really big games.

I would love to see Battlefield 2143 with hundreds of players (100 vs 100 players, etc) on large scale maps... where games take as long as they take, like in Battlefield 2, or Vietnam era. With having commanders, etc.

Interesting that you should mention Pantheon - had my eye on that, too, but it's too early to say whether or not I'm going to be ultra hyped for it.

I'm also a big fan of old school experiences, and its certainly a shame that more of them aren't being made.

Isn't CSGO sort of arcade gunplay too? Perhaps I don't understand your definition of the term.

Yes it does sound reasonable, also it is more appealing because would've been an open world "Bioshock", but they wanted to much on one game and couldn't decide which one should stay.
Theoretically you are correct, if a big studio or publisher can see the potential in it, hope fully picks up and do something good, but nowadays I barely see any good game which is not:
- a Beta version released as Full game and 2 years later (when no one cares) become the one which should've been the version they start with.
- in it's Alpha state released as Full game and reach Beta in the next 1-2 years as a Full Game
- came from a CGI trailer and meet the reality/demand and be the "promised game"
- Early access game acting as a Full game with season pass which cost twice the game
- Or any of these combinations

Everyone waited for Metro Exodus and it had like 15-20 hours gameplay (no rush and not skipping cinematic)?
So nowadays no matter which game you like or get your attention, probably it will fail you in some way, because devs no longer (excluding the good ones) optimise their games, just say, you want 60 FPS and fancy graphics @ 1440p, good: RTX 2080 Ti and i9 99(999999)00 and 1 TB storage for one game would be enough.

Divinity: Fallen Heroes should definitely have been on this list! Aside from spending a few nostalgia-driven hours in Warcraft 3 Reforged and WoW: Classic, the new Divinity game is the only one I'm looking forward to this year.

I'd be very excited for it myself it weren't for the style of gameplay they're going for - it's less an RPG, and more a tactical game. Which is fine, but that's not why I play the Divinity games, I usually have other titles that scratch the strategic itch for me (Total War, XCOM, etc).

Objectively, it does look like a very good game, however.

Will not be playing Borderlands 3 simply due to the exclusivity bullshit they are running with the Epic Game Store.

Yeah I think I'm so desperate for Divinity 3 that I'll take whatever morsel Larian Studios throw our way!

Sry for your smugness.

I don't expect CP2077 till 2021. I'm in no rush, release it when its ready.

Am I the only one interested in Dying Light 2?

The problem with DL2 is it will be the same (except some game mechanics) as DL1.
A mix of Dead Island and AC series, which is good but boring after couple hours, no real new thing, new fighting system or something which is expected in new games.
Copied DL1 over, added some new stuff and 50-60% of it will be the same: run, collect that, collect this, fix that fix this, turns out you worked for the bad guys, you kill them all, they have one remaining member who will hunt you or you chase in next 20 missions, boss fight and done.
I'm saying that it won't be good, it will be, but not as entertaining as it could be, in long term: boring...

No mention for the Talos Principle 2 or Psychonauts 2? I think they're far more likely to be 2019 releases, whereas as Vulcanproject mentioned, clickbait aside there's been no actual confirmed release date announced for Cyberpunk 2077. It could be 2019. Or 2020.
I smell console editor bias here hehe

I didn't really play it for single player. Too cliche and dramatic, the acting was kinda bad but nothing like The Division. I liked running around the world with my friend mostly. Messing around at night with a friend was fun.

Yeah we did that nigh runs, but when we reached lvl 20-25 that point night became boring as well, because the weapons were strong enough to kill them with 3-4 hits whilst they couldn't touch us...if they can introduce "fear" at night and reduce you skills e.g running slower, less agile, less dexterity...etc that would be fun.

This has me interested, I always did like Long-Term dog fights in war.

Interested in The Outer Worlds when it comes out of its Epic Beta. Also in Cyberpunk 2077 whenever they get around to it (better late than sorry). So I am playing an indie, Atom RPG which is a Russian Fallout (as in 1 or 2). Not an AAA, but has some fun quirks (may still be on sale at GoG, available on Steam, very frequent updates as they improve what they made).
