Hello All,
I recently came across three infected files on my computer after a few boot-time scans with Avast. One was in my cygwin /bin/ directory called "xmhtml.exe.". I was able to successfully move this one to the virus chest. I never use any application with that name, so it's not a big deal. However, the other two are a little more difficult to deal with.
2.) c:\windows\temp\unp31070.tmp: I attempted to repair this one, but I received an "Error: the system cannot find the file specified (2)." A third scan (not boot-time) did not find this file. I suppose it is possible I accidentally deleted it, but that error seemed somewhat suspicious.
3.) c:\system volume information\_restore\{...}\A0092346.exe: I attempted to repair this one, but it would not. I do not know what to do with this file. I have not attempted to move it to the "virus chest." Should I?
Attached are the logs to the 8 step process listed on the webpage <https://www.techspot.com/community/topics/updated-4-step-viruses-spyware-malware-removal-preliminary-instructions.58138/>. I have not had any strange symptoms, but I went ahead with the assumption that there may be malware on my computer. The spyware/malware software showed no infections. I don't know how to read a Hijackthis report.
Thanks for any help you can give.
All the Best,
bjcom
