Trouble getting into bios

I have been trying to reformat a Compaq presario s320onx.
has xp service pack 2.
The recovery discs that came with the computer said to turn of the computer then turn it on when the color screen with the logo appears, press the f1 key on the keyboard until entering setups displayed.
This didn't take me into the BIOS.Can anyone help me .
I also try the f10 key the same thing happen.
The desk top came up .
Please help Rich

I think you mean S320

Turn on the computer and press the Esc key when the first logo screen appears.

If a message appears asking for you to insert the emergency disk, insert the disk into the floppy drive. If you did not create an emergency disk, you must download and create emergency disk from HP.com, sp9477.

Please be very clear with your questions
As it takes longer to work out what you mean by biso ?? etc
