Cigarettes and alcohol are the top legal killers of people in this country, yet the government doesn't ban those. The simple solution here is to stop allowing anything from China to enter this country. It's as simple as that. Secondly, research needs to be done when it comes to e-liquids that are made in the United States vs the garbage that comes out of China. Finally, if both American made e-liquids are causing the same issues the Chinese garbage is causing, then we need to remove those ingredients, if they're even present to begin with. Trump is so hell bent on bringing things back to America from China, yet his stance on this is to ban everything completely whether its from America or China. The cigarette companies are losing a great deal of money here and that's the entire reasoning for this "epidemic." Contaminated products are to blame, not the clean products. Remember the toothpaste that used to kill people that came from China? Yea, we still have toothpaste right? We just don't have Chinese toothpaste. Remember the lead paint? We still have paint too. There are a lot of people who simply don't see the bigger picture here and I'm amazed at how stupid these people really are. Perhaps I should be the President.

I would like to point out the US *tried* to ban alcohol; it went so badly that no one has seriously considered outright banning a consumer product since. All that would happen is that production would move underground and prices would rise.

What I would do is put vaping under the same regulatory umbrella as other cigarette products, especially in regards to advertising limitations.
Since vaping, in some or all cases, is intended as a remedy to help people stop smoking, I would put it under FDA regulations nearly or completely as stringent as for any other drug - including requiring a prescription from a licensed MD to get it.

The black market will still be there, but at least there would be some effort to completely control the content of the vaping fluid and ensure that there are no harmful chemicals of any sort in the stuff.

#1 There are actually some "scientists" out there that don't "believe" that cigarettes cause lung cancer and emphysema. They are demonstrably wrong.

#2 A lot of these vape products are bootlegged in China, shipped here and weren't safe to begin with. The entire history of vaping has been wrought with exploding Chinese-made lithium ion batteries, unit failures and physical burns. Now the actually chemicals are making people sick. This isn't a matter of conjecture. This is real.

In the last vape-related article, there were so many proponents of vaping and I'm sure there will be now.

It's not about being a propnent of vaping or not. It's about misinformation. its black market marijuana vapes that are killing people. Its the oil they are using to liquify concentrates in order to vape them in THC vapes (Vitamin E acetate).

This product is not used in flavorings, or in nicotine vapes. The media choses not to draw that distinction usually, and so does the public.

Its like when the samsung notes were catching fire. They recalled them. Now imagine if they recalled all electronics that use batteries.

Vaping isn't the issue here, Actually the issue is marijuana prohibition. If it was legal and regulated, we wouldn't have black market THC cart's killing people.
Your information is not correct. From the article:
Earlier this month, it was reported that four Americans had lost their lives to the mysterious lung disease caused by vaping. It had been suspected that a particular type of chemical, possibly vitamin E acetate, was to blame, though it’s also possible that substances extracted from marijuana or hemp, including THC, could be creating dangerous new toxins when combined with vape-liquid chemicals. But no single substance or compound has been linked to all of the cases so far.
Sorry, but the cause or perhaps causes have not been identified. In fact, you can go to the CDC web site and find a press release that says exactly that.

The other stories on TS drew comments like this, and despite several postings pointing out that the illegal or THC laced vape fluids were not always indicated as possible causes of the problem, there were several posts like yours screaming that it has been definitively linked to the THC lace vape fluids.

What part of "the cause has not been definitively identified" is misunderstood?

THC "Laced"?? This is about concentrate vape cartridges, which are completely different than ejuice in every way. The only thing similar between the two is the both use coils and a battery to vaporize the liquid. The liquids and ingredients in THC vs nicotine vapes are 100% different. And all evidence has pointed towards THC carts. There's been nothing linking it to nicotine. There's been many deaths linked to the THC carts

You should educate yourself on the ingredients in both. The deaths are caused by oil in the lungs. Nicotine carts have no oils in them. The THC carts that are killing people do.

Read the report before you embarrass yourself again and you might actually find this:
Based on initial data from certain states we know: Most patients have reported a history of using e-cigarette products containing THC. Many patients have reported using THC and nicotine. Some have reported the use of e-cigarette products containing only nicotine.

So your evidence that nicotine vapes are causing oily lungs, despite having no oils in them, is that some people said they don't use illegal drugs, which they would have all the reason in the world to lie about?

There's no actual evidence that points towards nicotine vapes. it all points to THC vapes where they use oils to thin the normally solid concentrate. Those oils are killing people.

Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year. No one is calling for a criminal investigation on this...Why on 7 deaths?

My tin foil hat thinks big tobacco is behind the out cry to cut down on competition.

If you have had enough of the sensationalist shock headline fake news & unsupported worries from people who lack the most basic understanding on this issue. If you want to find out more about absolute blunderous regulatory approach the US is making of life-saving harm reduction vaping products, at the state & federal level & would like some accurate information on this subject from leading experts in all fields.

Harmful metals found in vapors from tank-style electronic cigarettes

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-09-metals-vapors-tank-style-electronic-cigarettes.html

"Concentrations of the metals, such as lead, in the aerosols increased with more voltage," Williams said. "Concentrations of some elements—chromium, lead, and nickel—were high enough to be a health concern. We found the concentrations of chromium, copper, lead, nickel, and zinc exceeded the proposed permissible exposure limit from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration."

What was tested was, apparently, normal vape fluids; there is no mention of THC vape fluids in the article.

Everyone insisting that the illness only occurs surrounding the use of illegal THC vape fluids, feel free to keep insisting that it is only the THC vape fluids causing problems at your own peril.

While the article says nothing about the illness or any relation of these metal vapors to the illness, I cannot imagine that sucking metal vapors into one's lungs that are in excess of OSHA permissible standards is harmless. In high enough concentrations, all those metals are toxic to humans. I cannot imagine that the body has an effective means of eliminating the metals from the lungs, and it is entirely possible, therefore, that they will build up over time making them more toxic with continued use.

Typical of medical advice - based on what is known at the time even if the knowledge is incomplete.

Medicine, at all levels, even public health boards like the one cited, is a PRACTICE. In other words, doctors, at all levels, learn with experience and give advice even if it is bad.

Poll finds many young americans think vaping is safe
https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-09-asco-millennials-e-cigarettes.html
"There are so many unanswered questions about e-cigarettes," Dr. Richard Schilsky, ASCO's chief medical officer, said in a society news release. "We need more research about these products so we can begin to answer these questions and protect the health and safety of the American public through education and, where necessary, regulation."
The U.S. Surgeon General has warned that e-cigarettes contain addictive and harmful or potentially harmful ingredients, including nicotine, lead and other heavy metals and flavorants, such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to lung disease.
 Yes, illegal THC vape fluids, obviously!/s

All UK e-cigarette products are tightly regulated for quality and safety by @MHRAgovuk. It’s important to use UK-regulated e-liquids and never risk vaping home-made or illicit e-liquids or adding substances, any of which could be harmful

Smoking kills thousands every year & creating a smokefree generation is one of our top priorities. Vaping is a fraction of the risk of smoking and makes it much more likely you’ll quit successfully than relying on willpower alone. The sooner you stop smoking completely the better

An anti-vaping standpoint at this stage is actually flat-earth grade idiocy by people who are easily misled by those who are corrupt, incompetent & part of a vast organised crime network in the US

Flavors hook kids argument is BS, they vape for a nicotine buzz, not flavors. These bans will do nothing for kids but will kill many of their parents & grandparents if they return to smoking.
Adults don't like flavors argument really doesn't need any explanation and can be summed up in 2 words: Flavored alcohol.

"Youth epidemic" is utter nonsense where they use past 30-day experimentation to class as use. 1 puff in the last 30 days is a vaper? Get real. That was used to claim as an epidemic and launch mass shock disinformation campaigns that ultimately lead to more youth use.

Metal, formaldehyde, popcorn lung or any other types of claimed exposures.
Many of these junk studies used to cry foul have serious methodological flaws where they overheat the coil in the vape device beyond that of normal or even realistic use.
Levels of anything harmful found in normal use are thousands of times lower than in smoking and at levels too low to cause harm. Or they torture animals by exposing them to unrealistic conditions like 24-hour constant exposure when adult humans with thousands of times higher body weight vape at most 20-30 mins a day.

No lung damage. The key finding from long-term study investigating health impacts of vaping. Conducted by Dr. Riccardo Polosa, world-renowned researcher & director of Institute for Internal Medicine & Clinical Immunology at University of Catania.

Latest problems are from black market THC oil. The cases where CDC & other health authorities *claim* they weren't using it is where they ask the patient and assume they are telling the truth. So you are going to take the word of someone who is worried about the consequences of admitting to partaking in illegal activity? They haven't actually tested them.

Vaping is being banned (banning flavors is a full ban) in many states (which have used emergency powers to bypass proper procedures, they will be coming after your rights next) and vape shops are now closing, destroying a life-saving industry that has helped millions of Americans quit smoking (vaping proven to be the most effective smoking cessation aid). Small vape shops that employ local people who have never sold to youth.

For anyone that thinks they are an expert based on trash headlines/news stories that omit facts, top results from Google search, biased fact-free Wikipedia pages or from some bizarre simpleton idea of "don't inhale anything but air" completely ignores the complexity of this subject, the problem vaping is solving (helping end the death and disease caused by smoking, the *real* science behind it & the disruption vaping has caused to established smoking money reliance that reaches further than you could possibly imagine.

Look up the past ethics violations of your beloved CDC & FDA.

"A plethora of poor-quality studies are emerging these days. An army of researchers who need to be educated properly, reiterating the same mistakes over & over again."

Resurrecting rigour in THR research:

"Nationwide network includes government bodies at local, state, federal & international level; charities; grassroots organizations; universities; & even scientists. Seemingly independent, in fact deeply financially interwoven."

Look up The Master Settlement Agreement. Blood money that funds your United States.
Look up the past ethics violations of your beloved CDC & FDA. CDC knows full well it is black market THC oil causing the current illnesses & deaths but is purposefully & criminally disinforming the public by remaining vague & pointing the blame towards life-saving nicotine vaping products that still haven't harmed anyone when used as intended, let alone killed them.
Look up how Bloomberg & his corrupt media empire & Pharma friends who are now releasing a Pharma vaping product.
Look how tobacco stocks mooned when Trump talked about flavor bans (making a fool out of anyone who claimed vaping was just a play by Big Tobacco).

God Bless America.

After the following report, the Myth of the perfection of the Royal College of Physicians is shattered as well as your assessment of the cause of the illness.

"While we can't discount the potential role of lipids, we have not seen anything to suggest this is a problem caused by lipid accumulation in the lungs. Instead, it seems to be some kind of direct chemical injury, similar to what one might see with exposures to toxic chemical fumes, poisonous gases and toxic agents," Larsen said in the news release.
And this is no surprise to me, anyway, given the analysis of the gasses in vaping fumes that appeared in the study I quoted above.

This is real science. Not fairy-tale flat-earthers. It would appear that all other views of the cause are from the flat-earthers.

Doctors are perfect until they figure out they are not.
