hey

my niece just bought an used desktop computer in a pawn shop. it is used is been built from parts of different computers. while trying to play a video it says that it needs some special "codecs" to play the file, since we dont know what codecs it has installed how do l know what codecs it is missing and where do l find them?

thanks for reading.

Well, the best thing you can do is check for windows updates. Make sure it has the most up to date media player. If it needs any other codecs, usually the most used is the Divx codec. Go to www.divx.com and download the free software and try it out. If not get the VLC player.
