Weekend Open Forum: Hobbies away from the PC

Playing volleyball, maybe weight-lifting, busy customizing parts for engines (tuning) or camping in the jungle

My hobbies really took a hit the more I got into the family thing (wife and two little kids), and this includes the PC. I'm nearly not playing any games now, nor working on personal programming projects. I go to Israeli folk dancing around once a month now and to karate practice maybe once every two weeks on average. My fiction writing died completely, reading took a serious hit but I still occasionally read books (on my Cybook Opus).

When I'm not on the forums I'm usually found giving a hand with diagnosing and fixing cars (Vauxhall mainly - GM to you guys), and I actually spend a considerable amount of time offering advice to those in need of it, and diagnosing problems with their cars. If I'm not doing that I'm usually (stuck) under the bonnet (hood to you guys I think) of a car.

When I'm not doing that and I'm indoors, I can usually be found cooking - I love to cook, and love my super duper expensive induction hob even more! :haha:

I also spend quite a bit of time repairing computers, diagnosing faults with them and building new systems, or upgrading current ones. I also design and host websites as a side line as well.

To be honest computers, whether online, building/repairing or web design takes up most of my day these days, and I'm usually in front of the computer pretty much all day. I do less and less physical work on cars now as my back gets progressively worse, so besides working on my own, or friends and families, I just offer support now - computers are now my biggest passion in life.

And when I'm not doing all of that I try to find time to spend with our 21 month old girl, and 8 year old girl.

I love biking, collecting Transformers toys (yes kid @ heart) and building simple robots.

Building my VW's and my wifes Audi i'm a big into old German cars. Home theater is a big hobby of mine but almost costs me my marriage every day with the new stuff I continue to buy im kidding about the marriage she loves it too. Snowboarding, golf and paintball are my outdoor activities. Lately my hobby has been house shopping though and working on having our first kid so life is busy but fun and never boring.

Reading, playing guitar / other instruments, mountain biking, cooking... and studying computer science, of course.

I really enjoy swimming; In Minnesota I can only freshwater swim a couple months a year.Other than that, I enjoy climbing and any sport with a net. My friend is trying to get me into S.C.A. (that's where you build/make/buy period armor and weapons and attempt to beat the **** out of people from other shires/houses/clans/guilds whatever). Sounds like allot of fun while getting a great cardio workout.

personally i love lego's and still play with them, cause they be awesome.

Ever since I moved to Nice late last year I've been quite busy between work and the MBA program. Whenever I have some free time, though, I like to go out for a good crepe and some coffee with friends / wife or just hang out in old town Nice... it's really beautiful around here.

I also enjoy traveling -- which I can do more often these days -- skiing, and recently I began playing football (soccer) every Monday. Now the weather is getting warmer so I guess I'll also get to go to the beach every now and then.

Photography is my big hobby. I don't shoot a lot in the winter, but usually in 8-9 months I'll squeeze off 2-3000 photos. Along with that I'm an RC helicopter nut wannabe, just starting out.
I couple my love of geeky things, with my other two hobbies. Everything shot from my nikon gets run through photoshop. My helicopter allows me to "fly" on the computer, when the wind is blowing too much.

I too am a photographer, once by trade now by hobby, and I also shoot Nikon (D700). However, unlike the guest above me, I try to get the photo as close to what I want prior to post production. I've also helped build RC helicopters/planes. Lots of fun. =)

Studying spanish, walking, some photography, and watching tv. In the summer I swim. Plan to study piano. I used to work on cars in the 80s but how do you do it now (ironically) all cars being so computerized? TInkering with computers has replaced tinkering with cars for me.

Bodypainting.

Do I win the forum?

:D?

Depends.... brush or finger painting? :p
Believe it or not, both. You use brush, sponge and fingers interchangably because of the different strokes (no serious, no pun intended) each method of application gives. it's also nice to use a whiteboard marker to do any bold lines. I hope to purchase and actively use an air-brush set-up one of these days to speed up the large areas.

It is a pity Posca Pens aren't made of body safe paints because they would be awesome to add into the mix…

I like hiking, white water rafting, camping (tent camping...rv is cheating, lol), singing and playing piano, analyzing music (yeah, i'm a nerd, lol), and going on random walks and bike rides.......i like long walks on the beach and unicorns (sorry, i was just listening to the comedy portion of an old Blink182 album :p
