White screen - VGA out is ok

My laptop will only display a white screen on its LCD. The VGA out to an external monitor works fine.

I took it all apart and found a broken wire in the vid cable from mobo to LCD (wire broke at hinge joint). Ordered a replacement and it did not fix the problem.

So, do I take it a step further and order an entire LCD display unit off ebay for $130? This laptop is a $400 jobber I bought 2 yr ago.

Could be the inverter card that rests in the back of the screen at the bottom. It is about the size of a ball point pen. You can usually replace it for $9.00 to $15 US, if you are good at disassembling the screen from the screen frame. Inverter cards are available from the manufacturer and are also found on eBay and other sites.
You start by removing the keyboard and the ribbon cable, but it sounds as if you already know how to get that far.
