I am trying to boot from a windows XP cd to do a complete reinstall and I keep getting the following message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is
properely configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** stop: 0x00000007B (0xF78D2524, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

any ideas in solving this?

Firstly load bios setup defaults
(To access bios is usually a prompt at startup like DEL or F2 or some other key)

Make sure nothing else is externally connected (like printer so forth)

You can run Memtest for at least 7 passes (~4Hrs) for a thorough test of your Ram

You can also run a HardDrive diagnostic test
