Having paid a colossal $2.5 billion for Mojang in 2014, Microsoft is understandably looking to get as much mileage as possible out of its acquisition. In addition to keeping the IP fresh with new features like Battle, a PVP multiplayer mode, and expanding into the education sector, Microsoft also has a Minecraft movie in the works.

But what if you’re more of a bookworm than a movie buff? Fret not, as Microsoft has something in store for you as well.

Marsh Davies of Mojang revealed in a recent blog post that Max Brooks, the author best known for World War Z, has written a Minecraft novel titled, Minecraft: The Island. Davies described it as kind of like Robinson Crusoe, but madder: a hero stranded in an unfamiliar land with unfamiliar rules that must learn to survive against tremendous odds.

Davies said he has seen an early draft and described it as “amazing.”

The author told Mojang that he is very excited to be part of the venture, adding that he can finally justify all the hours he’s spent playing Minecraft. Lydia Winters, Brand Director of Mojang, said they knew from their first meeting with Brooks that he would be a perfect fit for their first foray into novels based on Minecraft. Keith Clayton, VP, Associate Publisher at Del Rey, said they are thrilled to be working with Mojang on what will be the first ever official Minecraft novels.

The key word here is “novels” which suggests this will simply be the first in a series of Minecraft books.

No word yet on when Minecraft: The Island will arrive nor do we know if it’ll be connected to the Warner Bros. movie in any way.
