  1. I am trying to help someone that is getting the following error on bootup:

    Stop C000021 Fatal System Error

There is the BSOD and the system comes to a complete stop. Is there an easy fix for this or should I reload Windows XP Home Edition?

You could always try to run a repair installation before a full reinstallation if it's available to you.

Tell us the brand and model of the computer, or the motherboard.
It appears as if you have a hard drive failure. Can you boot in SAFE MODE? by pressing the <F8> key repeatedly once per second at startup?
Do you have another hard drive available which you could use to test?

Some recovery and restore disks of some manufacturers do no thave a "Repair" portion built into the CD, and they usually won't tell you much on a Fatal System Error. You probably need to know why it occurred. See if it will boot in Safe Mode first... it probably will not.
