Yahoo search now powered by Microsoft's Bing

The partnership between Yahoo and Microsoft is finally coming to fruition. The companies announced today that the "transition of organic search" is finished, with Bing powering Yahoo's web, image and video searches on both desktop and mobile devices in the US and Canada (English only for now). The shift is planned for additional markets as well, but we haven't seen a detailed timeline.

With the initial phase complete, Yahoo will presumably focus more on refining its offering as a web portal, instead of investing heavily in its search engine technology. Meanwhile, Microsoft says the companies are working on the migration to adCenter, which is expected to be done sometime this fall. "Our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season."

Based on current estimates, Yahoo and Bing represent a combined 28% of the search market -- far less than Google's 66%, but the merger should still provide more competition to the big G. What search engine do you use, and for the loyal Yahoo users, are you bummed about the move?

ya, i dont like the search results since they switched. I am not finding things as easily. google always found me too much and bing found me things i didnt want. yahoo was that one that was "just right" ...now their not. sad really, they had pretty good search technology under the hood too.

I use Dogpile, so technically I use both and more. This was a really dumb move on Yahoo's part, but obviously a really good one on Microsoft's even if you don't like Bing.

Google all the way. Simple and straight to the point. No extra time loading background images as Bing.com does.

Yeah, Google is the Undisputed winner for me, quick, efficient and always, I mean ALWAYS finds what I want, Bing is slightly slower and comes up with random finds. If I'm shopping for something though, I do use all other search engines to help find the best buy it is a shame yahoo is now using Bing though, have found 1 or 2 things on Yahoo that was of use.

Yea! I finally found someone else who uses Dogpile. My theory - why use a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Ask when you can use a mega-searcher like Dogpile and see ALL results.

I haven't used Google in a while now, and I don't usually need to click on even second page for what I search, hence I am not sure what this all the fuzz is about Bing not finding the right things. Frankly, there isn't much difference in them any way as long as you know what to find and how to. Major dislike about Google is how they keep in record everything we do much longer than the competition, and they are sort of just as sinister a corporation now as any other out there.

Just give me what I'm looking for -- I shouldn't need to scour 4-5 search engines for that and if I do, I'm using the wrong search site. Google does that for me.

Here in the "colonies west", we have what is called, "The First Amendment". One of its highlights is "freedom of speech", (and expression), We also have Title 18 USC, which deals with criminal matters. In a nutshell, 18 is the age of consent, records of the attainment of that age must be verifiable, and after that, most non violent pornography is legal. As to the malware aspect, this is why the great and wonderful wizard "E" created "recovery discs". I haven't lost mine, so I won't have to cook up some BS story for not having my Windows discs, or beg for help. Oddly, most of the malware victims are P2P users, malware from porn is a fair bit exaggerated. It's when you start thinking about free music, and a free copy of Photoshop CS-5 that all the trouble starts. My browser always goes to the site I ask, and judging by the malware forums, many people's browsers don't.
