Your favorite Final Fantasy game

Does XI count? Or are we only talking about the offline numbered titles?

If so, then IX for sure. I was absolutely in love with Vivi, and the characters were so developed it really made you feel like you were *there*. X was great, but it made me sad. Too sad.

Stuck with Rinoa's father.
Total time in finishing the game: 64 hrs

???...Rinoa's father isn't a card club member. All members live in the garden and go by code names: Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades, Jack, Queen, King...and Joker. If you beat all except the king, then the king comes and finds you (and the king has some killer cards!)

Rinoa's father has the Ifrit card, if memory serves. He shouldn't be that hard with a desent set of cards on you.

I managed a 50 hour "modest" run through on my first pass...on my "see everything" pass, I was going for about 120 hours. This is what i love about FF VIII: Final X can be done in a modest 30 hours, which doesn't feel long enough to be classed a Final Fantasy for me.

All the talk about FF IX; I never managed to take it all the way through - just got board and lost at this place where you have to play cards. I quit in the end (this was some years ago though)

I havn't timed myself in the games but I think the longest it took me to finish the game was about 120 hours for FF12 because I keep going back and forth and get lost all the time. XD The FF9 was really fun so I just kept running around and not wanting to finish the game just yet. I only played FF9 on Playstation 1 and FF12 on Playstation 2. =P

@Benny

Yes he is not one of the card club members but you have to face him the 2nd time of Fisherman's Fort to get Ifrit. I've beaten only the Joker.

I forgot how long it took me to finish IX.

I've got about 180 hours on FF12. The amount of stuff to do is amazing.

@WinXPert

How did you manage to be Omega Weapon in FF8? Because the card king holds the Gilgamesh card which is the only card (i think) that can be pawned for 10 holy war potions...To beat Omega without a good stack of invincibly potions is a near impossibility. Not even a few hero potions is enough, i feel.

Dunno, they all sort of blend together. Last one I think I almost finished was the one where you are some sort of antigrav or underwater polo player... Anyway, they seem to get nicer cutscenes and in game graphics but pretty much everything else in them seems the same...

@Benny

Too much draw/refining going around. I log about 150 + hours on this one. Have some holy wars trial, I got Hero trial from mugging Seifer and Eden. If I didn't get a Hero trial from them, I repeat the battle again. Used Squall. Irvine and Rinoa, lucky for me Invisible Moon kicked in twice. Battled him more than ten times until I've beaten him just once. I remember me and my cousin would take turns playing FF VIII on his PSOne.

With cheats on a PC, it's easy.

I quite like the refining part of FF8, opens alot of doors. I remember sitting for hours going through all the different combinations. Thing is, I never use the girls, just Squall, Zell and Irvine for me. So i probably missed out on Rinoa's limit break quite alot with Omega. You must have been really lucky because Holy war trials don't work all of the time, It's only the plain wars that do.

For me it was just load up on Aura magic, cast Aura on all members quickly, then throw a holy war over the party, then keep knocking limit breaks out onto him (and hopefully a Lion Heart finishing move everytime)...I had to repeat this about 5 times before i beat him.

Not sure what you mean by mugging Eden...If i remember right, Eden's the GF what you draw out of Ultima Weapon. I can't remember ever having to fight it.

correction, it's Edea, Eden, just a typo. :)

Having Phoenix Pinnion also helps

Same here... though I use trial, if it's a miss I start again.

I wish I could play the FF IV and V now on emulation but I am currently hooked on Dragona (MMORPG)

Whenever i had some Phoenix Pinnions they sometimes didn't work, which was annoying... (this is where "Auto-Life" magic come in handy in FF X and FF XII)

Here's a question: Did you ever manage to find all the Occult books and figure Doomtrain out...I opened Doomtrain just once, and it was by pure luck. And i only found 3 books..that last one must have been really stashed.

I never tried IV or V...just I, II, III, and the PS versions.

Ans. Lots of walkthroughs.

Solomon's ring in Lunatic Pandora, the other items need can be obtained by mugging, refining, and Card Mod.

I have created a saved game that starts with Doomtrain on Disc One, knowing what items are needed in the first place... and another with Squall equiped with Lionheart also in Disc One. No thrill or challenge when starting with that one though.

About Phoenix Pinion, works automatically for me if I have 100 items. Should all characters die on the first hit of an attacker, it kicks in automagically.

Actually, perhaps not considered by some hardcore fans as a "true final fantasy," mine has to be Crisis Core. I prefer the real time styled fighting myself. Which makes me a rather shallow fan, but what can I say?

I never used a walkthrough with Final VIII, so i guess that's why then.

Cheating doesn't work right for Final Viii, in my opinion. You lose the goodness of beating things fair and square...like searching up and down a coast line looking for Adamantoises, so you can get the items for your Lion Heart weapon.
