YouTube shuts down ad-blocker loophole, tightens restrictions

For the last couple of weeks on Vivaldi + uBlock Origin pre roll ads have been showing up nothing within videos or after them yet just waiting to see if uBlock will do anything about it

AdGuard updated one of their filters recently and fixed it. Back to seeing no ads.
Sadly I can't get AdGuard to work on my router, otherwise I wouldn't bother with browser blocking.

TS, TPU and a few other sites are white listed as they are worth supporting. YT and Google can go to hell with their endless spam.

Brave has a built-in adblocker which still works fine, ignore comments to the contrary. You can even turn off YouTube shorts from the options. People often install AdBlock on Brave or other blockers not realising that this is not required (and not a good idea). If you migrate to Brave from Chrome your existing extensions will come with you (including your adblockers). Uninstall them and Brave will give you perfect ad-free YouTube with all the benefits of Chromium with none of the downsides of Google.

Oh great! If you care about making money for You Tube, this method is for you.
Haha, that never even crossed my mind. I couldn’t care less if ad companies make a few cents off my internet browsing while I see no ads and the profiles built on me are completely bogus.

A few cents that cost me nothing is a fair trade for maintaining my privacy. That said, I can respect the total hatred of YouTube that has you choosing to give up your privacy out of spite.

Hell, ads are a fact of our consumer society. YouTube may force the occasional full-length one on you.....but usually it's a short chain of "quickies, with the option to 'Skip' from the second ad onwards. Or at least it is for me.

I can live with that, given that I don't spend that much time on the site anyway. I wonder if my having had a Google a/c for almost a quarter of a century confers any kind of "granddad rights"? Hmm....

Miq.

I did see the warning once last week, but after updating uBlock Origin filters (im on Firefox) it went away. Working fine again.

Waterfox is better at privacy than Firefox.

But why use the uBlock fork? uBlock works great on YT in Waterfox.

Anyway, I'm in the US and I use Firefox with ublock origin and I haven't been impacted yet.

I was using UBlock Origin(before Manifest V3), I've switched to UBlock Lite, and it works fine as well (in Windows)
When it no longer works, I'll stop using YouTube

I don't care what they do, or try to do, thank goodness they will ultimately always be the LOSERS. my phone has been rooted for years, use Google wallet every day. they've cried about as blockers on yt forever. I guess they are totally missing that people love to do things they openly say they don't like people doing simply because Google has turned to garbage that can no longer be trusted. they can do what they want, I'll continue to do what I want. I'm ready for life after Google, and I hope the US alphabet agencies all take turns busting Google balls till they are literally an unrecognizable pulp .
