Tomorrow at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Toshiba plans to unveil a half-inch thick rewriteable HD DVD drive for notebook PCs. As viewing and editing of high-definition content keeps pushing up storage demands, Toshiba is hoping their drive will find its way onto multimedia laptop computers.

Toshiba's SD-L912A can read and rewrite to single and dual-layer HD DVD-RW discs and also read and write to recordable HD DVD, DVD and CD media. A single-layer HD DVD-RW disc can store up to 20GB of information, which is over four times the capacity of a standard DVD. Toshiba plans to offer the drive on an OEM basis to PC makers and will start sampling it in July. Pricing information was not immediately available.
