In the wake of Amazon's recent $20 Prime price hike, 2-day shipping competitor ShopRunner is hoping to lure new customers in with a 1-year free trial to their service. The offer is being extended to existing Amazon Prime members that have not yet renewed their membership at Amazon's higher rate.

Led by former Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson, the service offers unlimited free 2-day shipping on products from more than 85 stores including Newegg, RadioShack and Tiger Direct in the electronics category to American Eagle Outfitters, Timberland and Tommy Hilfiger under clothing and accessories. Membership even waives the delivery fee on orders from Dominos for those late-night gaming sessions.

The service has no minimum order size and they cover the cost of shipping should you need to return something. What's more, the company guarantees they won't charge more than $79 when the free membership expires and they won't charge your card automatically.

Simply select ShopRunner during checkout at a participating site and you are all set.

Existing Prime members that wish to try the 1-year free trial will need to provide proof of their Prime membership within 24 hours of signing up. To do this, navigate to your Prime account, go to Manage account then click View printable receipt. Take a screenshot of this and paste it into an e-mail addressed to DoneWithPrime@ShopRunner.com and fire it off.

The verification process is a bit of a hassle but a free year of service is much better than the standard 30-day trial the site offers other newcomers.
