It's been nearly two and a half years since Psy's Gangnam Style music video went viral, setting a number of YouTube records in the process. As with most one-hit wonders, they often fade away just as quickly as they emerged but that doesn't seem to be the case with Psy.

The Internet sensation is once again in the news as he managed to break YouTube's video counter with over 2.5 billion views. Wow, just wow.

A Google+ post from YouTube said they never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (2,147,483,647) but that's exactly what Gangnam Style has done. As such, YouTube had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808) - a figure that'll almost certainly never be outdone.

There was a brief period before YouTube could implement a fix in which the hit counter completely stalled. Now when you visit the page, you can mouse over the hit counter to see "a little math magic" as the figure is recalculated although it's unclear how accurate the animation actually is.

Psy's video became the most watched in YouTube history after just five months of being online. He also earned honors for having the most liked video in YouTube history.

I referenced Psy as a one-hit wonder but truth be told, most of his YouTube video have millions of views with at least one approaching the 1 billion views mark.
