Believe what you want but The X-Files is set to return early next year. To help generate hype (as if loyal fans needed a reason to watch), Fox has released an extended 21-minute teaser that takes fans behind the scenes with several of the show's key characters including David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully).

The X-Files ran for nine seasons, originally airing on September 10, 1993, before wrapping up on May 19, 2002. It also spawned two feature films, 1998's The X-Files: Fight the Future and The X-Files: I Want to Believe some 10 years later.

The teaser has a bit of everything, explaining what the X-Files are for those who are new to the series and touching on familiarities that hardcore followers have long yearned for. Naturally, there are a few small spoilers so if you're wanting to watch with a clean slate, it's probably best if you avoid it altogether.

The new six-episode miniseries premiers on January 24 following the NFC Championship Game on Fox. The next episode will air the following night before switching to a weekly schedule for the remaining four episodes. Viewers can expect the familiar mix of mythology-minded episodes in addition to a few standalone monster installments.
