Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg on Saturday gave the commencement speech for this year's graduating class at UC Berkeley. It's the first time Sandberg has spoken publicly about her husband's death.

Sandberg, author of the bestselling book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, spoke of the importance of gratitude and resilience as well as the "three P's" which psychologist Martin Seligman describes as personalization, pervasiveness and permanence.

Sandberg's husband, Dave Goldberg, was the founder of Launch Media and CEO of SurveyMonkey. The two were vacationing in Mexico a little over a year ago when Goldberg died suddenly from a cardiac arrhythmia. He was only 47.
