Established: 8BitDo is one of the most respected third-party controller makers in the game. They have been in business since 2013 and focus on retro-styled products that look and feel a lot like original hardware from companies such as Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega.

Third-party game controller maker 8BitDo is now accepting pre-orders for a new version of one of its most popular offerings.

The 8BitDo Ultimate C 2.4G wireless controller is billed as a simplified version of the existing Ultimate Wireless 2.4G at a lower price point. The original is still available in white, black, or pink priced at $49.99 but the new model – in your choice lilac purple or field green – will set buyers back just $29.99.

There is also a wired version priced at $19.99. So, what is different?

The new wireless model does not ship with a charging dock like the original. Instead, you will have to top off the rechargeable battery using a standard USB cable. Furthermore, both the wired and wireless newcomers are missing the extra set of paddles on the rear of the controller, and neither support custom button layouts via 8BitDo's software.

Otherwise, the new gamepads appear to be identical to their earlier siblings. Both are compatible with Windows, Android, Steam Deck, and Raspberry Pi, and afford features like analog triggers, turbo functionality, rumble vibration, and have an anti-slip texture. The wireless version is rated for up to 25 hours of play time on a single charge and comes with a wireless dongle, cable, and rechargeable battery.

A quick check of 8BitDo's product page reveals 62 products including controllers, dongles, cables, and accessories. They even have a rad arcade stick and products for the Nintendo Switch. And who can forget the period-correct NES-themed wireless mouse?

8BitDo's new Ultimate C controllers launch on May 31 and are available to pre-order today over on Amazon. If you don't mind being tethered with a cable, the wired controller at $19.99 is an incredible deal.
