Why it matters: Asus ahead of Computex 2023 has announced the all-new Chromebook CM34 Flip, a convertible laptop with a 360-degree hinge and AMD hardware under the hood. The 14-inch touchscreen display sports a 16:10 aspect ratio and is framed on three sides by Asus' NanoEdge slim bezels to maximize screen area. It is powered by up to an AMD Ryzen 5 7520C processor, which features four cores / eight threads, Radeon 610M graphics, and a 15W TDP. The 7520C packs 6 MB of total cache and carries a base clock of 2.8 GHz but can boost up to 4.3 GHz.

Asus' latest can additionally be configured with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 512 GB PCIe M.2 SSD. It ships with a full HD webcam with a physical cover for privacy and has an integrated fingerprint sensor for added security. You also get Harmon Kardon-certified stereo speakers, support for Wi-Fi 6, and up to 13 hours of battery life on a single charge. Oft touched areas like the keyboard, touchpad, and palm rest are coated with Asus' Antimicrobial Guard to reduce bacteria levels.

The Chromebook additionally packs a full-sized backlit keyboard with 1.4 mm of key travel and an expansive 5.55-inch touchpad. The 360-degree ErgoLift hinge makes it easy to transform the laptop into a tablet and works in tandem with the optional stylus. According to Asus, the stylus can run for up to 45 minutes with just a 15-second charge. When not in use, it slots away into the Chromebook where it is automatically charged for its next outing.

Asus has outfitted the Chromebook CM34 Flip with a selection of ports including two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a microSD card reader, an HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a Kensington lock slot.

Asus hasn't shared pricing or availability details yet but according to AMD, systems using its new 7020 C-Series chips for Chromebooks are expected from Asus and Dell beginning in the second quarter of 2023.
