Gigabyte Aorus 15G XC

This is a fantastic machine if all you want to do is get 60 frames per second (and often, better than that) in most of your games without tweaking many settings. Doing that for under $2,000 is an achievement worthy of praise. But if you care less about mobility and having a thin form factor that Gigabyte’s Aorus 15G provides, MSI’s GP66 Leopard takes the RTX 3070 even further. Its thicker, heavier chassis affords the chip even more headroom to get better performance in games — for the same $1,799 price, no less.

The Aorus 15G XC is a high-performance gaming laptop without any major issues. Nonetheless, the lack of innovation other than the new GPU and the many missing features compared to the predecessor are a little disappointing.

The Gigabyte Aorus 15G is a powerful machine. The RTX 3070 will deliver some great gaming at high and ultra-high settings. However, when ray-tracing comes into play, some sacrifices need to be made to optimise the experience. The cooling system is impressive as the results show some great performance when it comes to heavy gaming loads. However, the biggest issues I have revolve around the lack of innovation in design.

The Gigabyte Aorus 15G sports a killer RTX 3070 GPU, but between short battery life, a squishy keyboard and mediocre speakers, the graphics card can’t make up for everything.

The Aorus 15G gets some added RTX 30 series power and we've been very impressed by what the laptop has to offer – if you want a gaming laptop with top-level performance this year, then this is an option that we'd recommend putting somewhere on your shortlist.
