The Studio Display XDR is Apple’s high-end desktop monitor. Its big, bright mini-LED panel is color calibrated for professional use in film editing and graphic design. Its higher refresh rate means animations from scrolling to minimizing windows are twice as smooth. It’s perfect for gaming. And you can watch movies and shows in their native frame rates, too. You won’t find a better display for the Mac — if you can afford it.

The Studio Display XDR is a great option as a cheaper, smaller Pro Display XDR.

The unique thing about the Studio Display XDR, then, is how strong the HDR effect is. Don't get me wrong: The complete package is very strong and the HDR performance really is top tier for those that want it. But like the Vision Pro, it won't be the disruptive force it's claiming to be, and the majority of us will go back to wishing Apple would make a 32-inch monitor, or maybe something more affordable to pair with the Mac mini or MacBook Air. As of now, neither the Studio Display or Studio Display XDR fit the bill.

For well-heeled Mac (and only Mac) users, this is just the display to make your content shine. It should cost a lot less, and should be 32 inches instead of 27, but there’s no denying that the color gamut and accuracy are top-notch, HDR picture quality is fantastic, and even the webcam is really good this time.

The Apple Studio Display XDR is a game-changer for creative professionals, finally bringing a 120Hz Mini-LED panel and Thunderbolt 5 to your desktop. It delivers the fluid performance and inky blacks that Mac users have been craving, resulting in Apple’s most capable display yet. However, at $3,299, it is a massive premium over the standard model, and the persistent limit of a single upstream port remains a frustrating hurdle for multi-Mac setups.

With its 2026 reboot, Apple's Studio Display remains a gorgeous monitor for the Mac faithful. Its classic design, upgraded connectivity, and Mac synergy largely offset the high price.
