No Man's Sky

No Man’s Sky may be fun to explore for a while, but the façade soon wears off and shows how repetitive of a title it truly is. If you want to see what coding can do to produce unique worlds, then check it out. However, there are other resource mining survival games out there that are worth your time.

A game that promised the universe (literally), but unfortunately failed to deliver. Enjoyable at times but ultimately a proof of concept for what could've been.

No Man's Sky is not an action-packed game. Hello Games says they have much planned for NMS, including multiple content updates and patches. We hope some of these will include more advanced intelligent life to encounter and engage. As it stands today, No Man's Sky offers countless hours of exploration across many star systems and worlds. Its a unique experience for anyone who loves gameplay that hinges on strict survival and exploration.

Also just generally lost. Though that’s a hazard of having over 18 QUINTILLION planets on which to muck about. That’s too many zeros to type out, let alone actual planets to look at. After almost 40 hours of gameplay, I can safely say that the more I learn about the universe in No Man’s Sky, the more I realize how much I don’t know.

No Man's Sky is an addicting grind fest of a game that can successfully lure players looking for a relaxing experience of discovery further and further into the vast unknown. It's not action packed, nor is it story intensive. At times it is an intriguing push forward, at others it is a slow burn of slow travel. No Man's Sky certainly isn't for everyone.

Much more than a sterile description of its discrete parts and features, No Man's Sky is an astounding artistic and technical achievement worth experiencing. The wonder of stepping onto one of seemingly infinite planets and exploring, even while navigating the title's shortcomings, is unparalleled by any other game.

The developers could have done so much more, but their decision to limit their creation and players' choices to what is for the most part a mining and trading simulator, displays a lack of imagination. The largely solitary experience of No Man's Sky is monotonous, easily frustrating and loses its charm way too early. For a game with the promise of all the wonders of the universe, it delivers so little.

Whether it’s upgrading your ship or discovering a planet loaded with rare goodies, there are some moments that tap into your sense of satisfaction. In general, the good in No Man’s Sky outweighs the bad, but there are enough minor annoyances and curious decisions here to hold it back from being something special.
