With the best battery life we’ve ever seen and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that delivers best-in-class performance, it’s hard to beat the ROG Phone 7 as a gaming device. But the Galaxy S23 Plus and OnePlus 11 offer more complete mobile experiences at the same price or less.

For a gamer that puts specs above all and wants lots and lots of customizable options, this ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is packed with them. We haven't yet reviewed the competing RedMagic 8 Pro series which has the same chip with a lower $649 starting price. However, the software experience on the Asus is very good, achieving a nice balance between being a gaming device and a mobile phone.

Neither of these "criticisms" is a new development, though, and neither is the steep price tag on the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Luckily, by sticking to a proven formula, Asus has once again managed to deliver a well-rounded device that not only excels in the gaming realm but can arguably even rub shoulders with the Galaxy S and iPhone devices of the world.
