At $160, the Umi Touch is a great lesson for consumers: you can’t simply read a spec sheet and expect to receive a decent smartphone. Even though it’s a year old and features 'lesser' hardware, I’d far rather purchase and use a 3rd-generation Moto G for the usability. If Umi had spent more time polishing this handset and harnessing some of the hardware inside, I’m sure it could be a great budget device, but as it stands I’d recommend looking elsewhere or waiting for a significant price cut.
Our editors hand-pick related products using a variety of criteria: direct competitors targeting the same market segment, or devices that are similar in size, performance, or feature sets.

The first handset to pass through our test course made by the Chinese manufacturer UMi leaves a good impression. It offers more than the average for a device of this price range. The metal casing also looks high quality. The IPS panel is bright and high resolution with 401 PPI. The combination of Mediatek's octa-core SoC and 3 GB of RAM ensure smooth system performance, and thanks to the fast 16 GB eMMC storage, applications open without much delay. The latest Android 6.0 version and the option of other ROMs ex-factory is not a matter of course, either. The camera quality is also on a high standard for an entry-level smartphone.
