Launched in 1998, TechSpot began life as a personal tech blog called "Pure Rendition." It focused on news around the emerging 3D accelerator scene built on the Rendition Vérité chip – one of the first mainstream, consumer-grade graphics processing units.

Soon after, the site rebranded as "3D Spotlight" to broaden its scope across the early 3D industry, then defined by players like 3dfx and later Nvidia and ATI. In 2001, we relaunched the site yet again, this time under the new domain TechSpot.com. The name was picked up for a handsome $200 in the post – dot-com crash era, after the original owners decided they no longer had a use for it.

From there, TechSpot expanded to cover the full consumer technology sector. By that point, the site was pulling in roughly one million monthly visitors. Today, TechSpot reaches more than 8 million readers each month, serving PC power users, gamers, and IT professionals worldwide.
