Accessing NTFS from another drive/install

Hi,

Having an issue with a windows box, so I figured I'd install a parallel system and backup the data. On the original, the directory is "private".

When I go to access it from the new partition, I get "access is denied". I tried what is suggested in https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-8862-Accessing-a-private-folder.html , to no avail.

Is there any way to access this info from XP?

Do you have XP Home or Pro? If Pro, (at least I dont think it's in Home) then from an explorer window, go to TOOLS>Folder Options...>View. Scroll down the advanced settings to deselect "Use simple file sharing.(Recommended)". Click OK.
Then right click on the folder your having problems with, select properties, security tab, and click add, to add the user everyone and give them full control. And click okay.... see if that works.
