Platooning....sign in join the line and relax
Sounds like the Jetsons but Volvo says "vehicle platooning" could be here within 10 years !!
In conjunction with Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SATRE project has taken the first steps by way of a successful demonstration of it's Technology at the Volvo proving ground near Gothenburg, Sweden.
The tests carried out included a lead vehicle and a single following car. The steering wheel of the following car moves by itself as the vehicle smoothly follows the lead truck around the country test track. The driver is able to drink coffee or read a paper, using neither hand nor foot to operate his/her vehicle.
Although technology development is well under way, what may take longer is public acceptance (see movie staring Will SMITH iRobot ) and legislation in the EU block
