Malware is a Threat to YOU!!!!

Malware can be Destructive to Your Personal Information!

What is it

Malware is the term used to describe every software that is designed to harm users and their data.

This malicious software is divided into many types, depending on spreading methods and actions.

Forms of Malware

Viruses

Viruses copy their code sequences into other files, spreading as fast as they can. Usually, those files cannot be used unless disinfected. These programs can be very dangerous and have caused billions of dollars in damage to computers and the information they hold.

Worms

Worms, on the other hand, are standalone programs that spread throughout the system, even in the boot sector, making it unusable. These programs are usually used in conjunction with trojans. Click HERE to learn more about worms.

Wabbits

Wabbits are files that self-replicate in order to run exploits and other malicious code in order to limit system usage. They usually steal system resources and slow a computer to a crawl.

Comet Cursors

Malware can also come in a 'fun' form. This is usually geared toward kids in the form of comet cursors. These programs can be exceptionally dangerous because of the fact that they are marketed toward children.

Trojans

Trojans are a form of malware that disguises itself, making the user think it is something else that is useful or meaningful to them. These malicious programs can be very dangerous. Click HERE to learn more about Trojans.

Rootkit

Another type of malware is the rootkit. A rootkit tries to cover the traces of an attack (clear logs, hide processes). This can be dangerous because it makes the actual malicious code hard to find and remove. The rootkit usually allows the malware to spread further and do more damage before the user suspects a problem.

Spyware

Spyware is the newest form of malware. Spreading through the internet, mostly behind adware, spyware is the most dangerous form of this malicious software. For the most part, it is totally undetectable to the computer user. It usually tracks your movements and can even record everything you do on your computer and over the internet.

Adware

Adware usually comes in the form of a pop up. It can be the delivery system for spyware, slow your computer to a crawl, create system crashes, or just plain annoy the user.

Keyloggers

Keyloggers are usually seen with, or are a form of, spyware. These tiny programs can record everywhere you go on the internet and record every keystroke you type. They then send packets of information to the company or person who created them. Obviously, these packets of information contain all your information, including your financial information!

Why Malware Was Created?

There are many reason for malware to be created:

* Steal usernames
* Steal passwords
* Steal banking information
* Steal credit card information
* Track where people go on the internet
* Record information processed and stored on a computer
* Understand peoples buying and surfing habits
* Create destruction of intellectual property
* Reek havoc in peoples lives by shutting down computer or ruining data

I recommend to anyone who hasn't got an antivirus software installed to download this AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.

Or try this avast! 4 Home Edition. Which i prefer. :D:D

Great post Jase.

Just one note:

Spyware Nuker and NoAdware (listed on the recommended anti-spyware software page) were originally listed on Spyware Warrior's Rogue/Suspect Anti-spyware list. They have since been delisted, but I for one wouldn't recommend them.

Regards :)

You're welcome.

I don't think that Spyware Nuker and NoAdware are rogue programs any more, but there are better "tried & true" programs such as Spybot - S&D, Ad-Aware, and AVG Anti-Spyware.

Regards :)

Yes there is Kitty500cat.

Hopefully this thread will help all them who are unsure what malware is.

Also added the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5. For anyone who hasn't got an anti-virus program. :)

And added avast! 4 Home Edition. :)

Regards Jase :)
