Plowing ahead with Bulldozer

...Remember...the thermal compound goes on top of the CPU...:p:wave:

Is that the smooth side?:)

Moving right along, trying to size up the radiator mount so I have a couple more shots. This will be my first full size radiator mount so here's what I'm thinking. Go with a top mount, pickup the second 200mm top fan, use the Corsair fans to create a push pull configuration venting out the top of the case.

Some sources recommend pulling cool air from the outside which would be the opposite of what I think should be done, open to suggestions. Also, there are only four mounting points (each corner of the radiator) available ... proceeding on the assumption that this should be enough to secure the radiator. A few more pictures below.

Miz,
Maybe Chef will weigh in here, but I think 120/140mm fans on both sides of the rad will yield a better result than the 200mm on the outside will. The better part of the 200mm fans will be outside the radiator edges, and the 120/140mm fans create more 'velocity' for lack of a better term.

I'll have to remove the 200mm top fan to see what mounting options are there, could fabricate something if need be. Would it be best to vent to the outside?

i really want to know how that h100 performs i hope well.

I am rather curious myself, sure hope so.

If memory serves, the mounting options in the X are the same as my 932: 120 & 140mm mount holes.
No reason to push the rad air inside. i start from the bottom pulling in cold air and exhaust through the top and rear fan.
( i would use the rear 'normally exhaust' fan to pull cool air in to the rad fans)

Thanks Red, that's about it for tonight but will give it another go tomorrow

Yup.
Stick with 120's in push-pull - The 200mm will have different airflow and static pressure values than the 120's on the "push" side of the rad. I would also hazard a guess that the larger fan hub of the 200 is going to play havoc with airflow through the rad (both being larger, and not lining up with the 120mm fan hubs). The C-M Megaflows aren't the best fans in any case (pun intended).

[H100 review]

Airflow direction should be to exhaust from inside the chassis. Attempting to drag air in from the top works against natural convection.
Corsair recommended that the H50/H70 be mounted in the rear chassis exhaust location but with air being drawn into the chassis- mainly because a lot of chassis have limited airflow across MOSFET/VRM and chipset heatsinks. Drawing air in (even if warm) helps keep temps down. It also eases heat coming off the back of the graphics card rising vertically and being absorded by motherboard heatsinks and the waterblock/hoses of the Corsair unit. Using a chassis with good airflow should nullify the problem. I would suggest using a high cfm 120mm fan in the supplied bracket that sits between the hdd cages and the graphics cards -especially if you're going quad-SLI. Dont forget the vibration dampening.

I will second that. I have two 120mm fans stacked between the HDD cage and the VGA's blowing length wise between the cards. I also have two 120mm fans on the bottom of the case drawing cool air in and up, all exhausting through the top of the case. It manages to keep four OC'd VGA's to nice temps while under full load. My 'heat stack effect' should be much worse than yours with two cards with a double space between them, especially with the 590 being 'vapor chamber' and running at good temps to start.

*** it's a great cooler, but that review pisses me off...Kyle strikes again.

I appreciate your input dbz. Do you have any recommendation for which 120mm fans work best for this application?

I'm hoping you take quite a few more pictures Mizzou, even if it does make me feel rather jealous viewing them! :haha:

I'm not a very good photographer but will give it my best shot. Might as well enjoy it as this will be the last rig I build for while

Just dropping in some of the major components, here's a few more pictures.

Personally, I use Noiseblocker and Noctua fans at the moment- but they aren't the be all and end all obviously.
Bear in mind that you should keep away from sleeve bearing fans if they are mounted horizontally- the bearing wears much faster and will start squealing like a stuck pig in fairly short order (BTW the 200mm Megaflow is a sleeve bearing).
Here's a review of some of the more well known rad compatible fans from a couple of years back.
In addition you could also look at Cooler Master's R4 range of fans (fairly inexpensive, moderately quiet, good static pressure, up to 90 cfm flow rate and barometric ball bearing construction-keep away from the sleeve bearing versions ), Enermax Magma, and AeroCool's Shark range .

I would stick with 25mm thick fans with the HAF chassis. 38mm fans will may present clearance problems, and while they may push 100-250 cfm, Panaflo, Sunon and Delta's aren't known for their quietness.

I have a pair of Noctua's that could be pressed into service along with the Corsairs that came with the H100, but as you've noted they're not the be all and end all. The Cooler Master R4's look interesting but I'll go ahead and check out your other reviews. Trying to get this right the first time if possible, so thanks again for your input.

If you find yourself in the market for good fans, I have a couple suggestions. THe Noctua NF-P14 FLX (SSO bearing) and the Thermalright TY-140 ( EHFB bearing) are very good. both at 1300 RPM are under 20Dba and come with LN and ULN connectors/settings.

I would like to add my name in the jealousy department to this thread. You're pictures are great Mizzou, they almost belong in a porn mag (they're so delicious to look at).

Good luck with this...I'll definitely be keeping tabs :)

OMG, going blind reading fan reviews but either of these looks like they could do the job. Have always had good luck with Noctua (quality wise) and this carries a 6 year warrantly plus it gets good reviews.

Noctua NF-P12-1300

This Thermalright looks like it might be a good fit as well and costs a bit less. There are four models available ranging from 1000 to 200 RPM and all are the same price.

This is just wrong on so many levels. While Mizzou's photos are indeed very well done, you really shouldn't be getting any auto erotic stimulation from them. The whole anthropomorphization thing with the computer is a bit disturbing. Feel free to PM me should you need a link or eight, to assist you on the road to the type of sexual stimulation that only the human female should be able to induce.

(Aw Benny, I"m jus' kiddin')...

Wow!... I usually get " I'm not kidding and **** you!":p:haha:

You're getting soft in your old age. :D

@ Miz,
The ones I linked are ugly, but very quiet.

No? A few hours earlier with this salient information might have saved Mizzou's eyesight
OMG, going blind reading fan reviews...
Still, they say that the other senses can compensate. Putting the system together solely by touch could be quite an achievement...and quite sticky (TIM application, guy- keep it seemly)

Could get worse with in-car computers now becoming mainstream. DC as well as AC Whoa!

Definitely kidding you Benny. "a link or eight" my a$s...I'm sure captain sould come up with a number of links many orders of magnitude more than that

I recall this one particular link...there was a donkey named Herbie and an exotic woman named Lotta Sorres. The man with the whip broke his wristwatch....oh dear...of topic again.

Miz, the aforementioned fans:

I have both and they are very quiet.

I'm going off to look for some naked women climbing all over construction equipment. Ideally, adorned with work boots and tool belts. Hopefully that will keep me on topic when I return.... Bulldozer....YAY....!
