WOF: What's your favorite media player and why?
Despite losing popularity after AOL's acquisition, I still use a barebones version of Winamp because it's what I'm familiar with and it works well for basic music playback. I tried converting to iTunes a few years ago after purchasing an iPod, but it was simply too bulky for my needs. Meanwhile, Zoom Player handles all of my videos. Although VLC is awesome, I've found that skipping through content can be sluggish compared to Zoom, SMPlayer and others.
So, let's have it. What software do you rely on for your media playback, and why?

foobar2000 for music because it's excellent and VLC for video since it's "good enough" and plays everything without hassle.

I like to use a variety of Windows Media Player, and I use VLC player for all my dvds.

I vote for VLC. Been using it for years and yet to see any sort of hiccup.

Media Player classic HC and Aimp2
Aimp2 id far better then winamp and no unneeded extras included.

Used to use MPC + K-Lite codec pack (the full version) and later found VLC. Stuck with VLC after I had to do a reformat simply because it was only 1 thing to install.
For music I have been using iTunes for a while. I really like its auto-organizing features and how it copies all the songs to the correct folders. I'm horribly unorganized, and my music used to be such a befuddled mess before I found iTunes. I played with SongBird some, but xFire doesn't recognize it so I can't control it from within games. I do run SongBird on my laptop that's running Linux tho.

The reason for this is the easy to install 32bit/64bit direct show filters from Ogg Vorbis adding ogg / flac support in WMP. (http://xiph.org/dshow/). Now installing more of the WebM codec's as well.

I've also been around the block a few hundred times now. I watch a lot of downloaded anime that comes in to many formats to even list, so far KM player is the only one that could just do it everytime without a fuss. It does crash from time to time and requires quite a bit of technical knowledge and tweaking but thats exactly why I think its awesome.
In short, if you like a player that supports every format known to mankind and want 75 billion options and settings along with that - KM Player is the way to go!
Ps. Winamp for life where audio is concerned, just because I've been using winamp since the 90's

I use WMP11 and MC. Running CCCP codec back with mpeg2 disabled for FFD show, and running MPCHC DXVA codec for GPU acceleration.
Everything works great, looks good and I do not have to worry about whether my universal remote will work with XXXXX software.

I use Media Player Classic with CCCP codec pack for video on the PC, and foobar for audio, on my htpc i use media portal, on the notebook i use coreavc also for hd (mkv) files because is lighter on the cpu than ffdshow.

VLC, no need to download any codec, no toolbars or other adware.

Video: [use uniextract161 to extract the protable files, remove crap adware form setup.exe!]

MPHC [not portable so any custom mouse config. are lost after new os installation, unlike splayer]
Audio: Few Years using Spider_Player Free, but it switched now to Small Player, http://sites.google.com/site/igorware/small-player
Reason ? Well the terrible GUi of Spider Player, the def. gui always will splitt into its three parts, eq, playist and player, i never managed to put the 3 back tog.
Not good:
wmp,vlc,kmplayer and gomplayer

I am shocked that most of u don't use KMPLAYER it is unrivaled in all departments. It as every codec imaginable will play damaged media including dvd, cd. fully customizable, enhancements galore, very beautiful ui it can also show your media in a scrollable view thumb nails view and so much more. I recommend nothing else.

I have been using J River Media Center for the past four years now and think this has not met it match yet, this being that its fully customise and allows you to fully manage your media files easily. I am currently on version 15. Mostly for music it is excellent, and they have even added the 3D Album looks where you can drag and view. I keep a large database of files and cannot leave without it. You can create custom Smartlists to your imagination.

love media player classic home cinema with klite codec pack full and get all latest updates, it nearly plays each n every format thumbs up

Zoom Player because it handles everything from media to DVD, easy to use, many shortcuts and lots of functionality. Never leave home without it.
