Manufactured and marketed by Thermaltake, the Level 10 was actually designed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA, a subsidiary of the BMW Group. In addition to engineering yachts, trains, aircraft, lifestyle and IT products, the three studios in Munich, California and Singapore also create design concepts that transform visions into reality. The Level 10 happens to be one of those concepts and is easily one of the most iconic computer cases ever created.
We've never seen a chassis that looks remotely like the Thermaltake Level 10. It's not the kind of case you walk by without noticing, and when you do see it, resisting the urge to move in for a closer look is impossible. Simply put, the Level 10 is a piece of art. However, like most fine works, the Level 10 comes at an exorbitant fee and users can expect to pay somewhere in the vicinity of $700 for this PC enclosure.
With an asking price that would otherwise buy you a 3-way GeForce GTX 460 SLI setup (with money to spare), or an entire gaming system for that matter, we have to ask the obvious: is the Level 10 worth your cash?
This thing is hideous. I don't know what everyone is talking about.
+1
please stick to designing cars BMW...
I gave this thing the once over three times at MicroCenter and seriously considered it. could not put up that much $$ though on the chance that triple or quad crossfire would melt.It is impressive though.
What?! Techspot... NO PICS? I wanna see this thing inside and out. THEN I can decide if its worth my money. I have never really gotten a good look at this thing. Disappointing.
Somebody didn't read the full article...which including the introduction page, is 6 pages long and contains a good amount of pictures ![]()
I'm also concerned with the hard drive bays and cooling, looks like overheating drives for sure.
In general I think the orientation is stupid, I would flip it on its side and paint city buildings on the whole thing then stick a donkey kong statue on it.
You can put watercooling on the cpu at least with this: http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php/eco.html
Lastly I would probably pay 100-200$ for this max, maybe 250 if it had BMW logos all over it, 700$ is pretty laughable.
Too cool! This reminds me of the 1980's Nakamichi cassette decks that automatically flipped the cassette. Certainly not something you need, but "need" clearly has nothing to do with it.
this is nothing like the ferrari 458 because you called it a work of art.....but for something to be art it has to have no other purpose but itself...... rather the 458 is not terribly priced, its almost as fast as an enzo and its pretty......i think the thermaltake level ten is more of a alpha 8c...i imagine thats what jeremy clarckson would say if he reads this.....
I bet if time wasnt an issue a few people here at TS could build this thing under that price point. I looked it over myself and I'm wondering if putting an acrylic window over the motherboard cover would make me more interested.
i like it at first glance, very artistic design.
No JC would regrettably ask James May what a computer case is and once he found out he still wouldn't care. Then if he read this he wouldn't make a car related reference at all, he would ask why there is a need for more than one type of computer case.
He would probably then continue on with a 1000 word rant about how guys that argue over obscure references to computer parts on tech site forums are worse than caravan drivers :P

No, no, no Steve....I think he would just want to see how fast the stig could get this overpriced piece of al-loom-in-iyum around the track. ![]()
haha so true.
And now to hand it over to our tame race driver, some say if he built the Level 10 it would have wheels and that if he engineered the Fermi architecture it would have arrived on time? all we know is, he's called the STIG!!!

.....meanwhile, James prattles on about the aerodynamics of the cooling chamber.
Well, I think it's a fine example of "Ikea Provincial". For the price it should come with a white shag rug, and a conical free standing metal fireplace. I hear that for a hundred dollars more, you can get the, "Austin Powers Signature Edition"! Groovy baby.....
COOOL techspot guys watch top gear......
and he wouldn't ask james may....he would ask hamond, remember when he asked why women dont race in f1...he asked somone in the audience why she doesnt and what she does......she said tanning salon "tanning salon? richard whats that"
What about cooling?
Yes, they mention how many fans there are, but how's the air flow? I didn't even see that mentioned.
It also doesn't look like they've planned for SSD drives.
I'm sorry, but having to go out of my way and find out which devices need extension cables, wait for those to be shipped, etc. isn't my idea of fun.
I would've had to give this case a mediocre rating at best.
a 10 for style, but if you care more about style than your Graphics card overheating, you're probably not cut out for building PCs.
Well then damnit!...I guess i'm 'provincial' cuz i like that thar thing.:p
That's what I said previously, It looks like a multi card setup might melt in there.
May be if it is cooled with something even colder it can hold out .... I don't remember the exact name but few years ago there was some casing with compressor inside it to cool CPU etc.; may be something of that sort is in order to be used with this case.
This is a Nice case .. I like the individual compartments and the top and bottom carry handles. Hopefully the Taiwanese are taking notes and will bring out a copy for £40 - £70. And use less metal ...47kg is more than I weigh. How ironic .. small gamer cushed to death by Computer. £700 gets me a 128gb SSD plus a a fully populated 4bay 8tb NAS. And some money left over for Hobknobs and Coffee. lots of Hobknobs..
Accordingly, this case is selling for 700 to 800 >dollars<(US), and weighs 47 Pounds, not 47 kilograms (21+ Kilos).
Even at that, it's still too expensive, but perhaps only bordering on too heavy.
I think this case is a very interesting and successful design exercise around the hard points defined by conventional high-end desktop hardware. For a modder introducing a truly steathy water cooling loop to this case might just be the ultimate challenge.
looks to me as an BIG dust catcher!! no thanks, give me
clean lines,easier to keep clean!!
$845 in Australian dollars, plus postage which would be about $50-odd as standard for something this big and heavy.
Plus postage insurance, because you'd sure want to take it out on a baby like this...
I do like it, reminded me of the old Crays...
However, I'll stick to my XFX980i tucked inside an Apple G5 case; for now...

That sounds a little bit like cross dressing ![]()
