Audio Mode.
Options available for this setting are Software 3D Audio,
Hardware 3D Audio, Hardware 3D Audio + EAX &
Safe Mode. The use of 3D Audio allows for
significantly better 3D positioning, particularly more
noticeable for those connected to 4/4.1/5/5.1 Speaker
systems. Software 3D Audio provides 3D audio via
OpenAL (Open Audio Library) wrapper (defOpenAL32.dll)
which other than providing 3D positioned audio will also
reduce performance as it is performed via the CPU & as such
isn’t recommended for those with CPUs slower than 1Ghz.
Hardware 3D Audio is recommended for those whose
Soundcard driver provides a hardware OpenAL driver
(Verifiable by the existence of OpenAL32.dll in the
Windows system directory, or not) as it will provide true 3D
Audio without any real performance hit, though do not wish
to use EAX effects. Hardware 3D Audio + EAX is
recommended for those whose Soundcard driver provides a
hardware OpenAL driver & also support EAX. As before this
will provide positional 3D Audio with little performance hit
in addition to EAX effects in levels & also added support
for EAX Advanced HD effects with the SoundBlaster Audigy. If
you are having severe problems with audio playback in the
game try selecting Safe Mode to see if it resolves
the problem. This shouldn’t be required with most
Soundcards, particularly more gaming oriented ones, so be
sure to check for updated drivers if this occurs with, say
an Audigy. Should you wish to use Hardware 3D Audio
or Hardware 3D Audio + EAX please refer to the
UseDefaultDriver=x option described further down.
Reverse Stereo.
When Ticked this reverses the left & right audio
channels of your speakers. If you should need to Tick
this then you’ve probably setup your speakers incorrectly.
Basically there’s no reason why you should have this
Ticked, leave it Unticked.
Auto-Taunt.
Set this to your own preference.
Low Sound Detail.
This option determines the sampling rate to be used for
playback of sound. High would be the best option to
select if you have a relatively new Soundcard, e.g.
SoundBlaster Audigy! or Santa Cruz & would provide best
audio quality. Low is only really recommended for
those with much older, or perhaps non-gaming oriented
Soundcards or with very slow CPUs.
