$1249 iPhone XS Max costs Apple $443 to make

I've had 3 friends already buy the Xs Max, All of them said the same thing to me: "If I get an android phone, I lose all my apps". And I tell them everytime, the money you save buying an Android device, you can re-purchase the same Apps and still save a small fortune. It's how I got out of the Apple Ecosystem at least.

I don't really know what you're trying to prove here, Not only does everyone know the iPhone sells well but what are you trying to prove? There are no other High End phones because they don't sell as well? I'm sure there's a car analogy here ;)

Any who, Something I see everyday are iPhones, They are nothing special anymore, Haven't been for a few years now, people buy them because they've bought into the Apple Ecosystem and it is not only painful to leave, it's costly as well.

I applaud Apple for the strategy, Make it hard to leave so people won't. I just hope newer buyers, people who haven't touched Apple products before, Aren't being suckered in, here in the UK at least, I don't know anyone who wasn't already an Apple fan, to go out and purchase the new iPhones.
I see.... so it was obtuseness.... not the point of the conversation... your experience aside, the numbers don’t lie - and my point about iPhones not having any real competition remains.

I honestly don't think I know anyone who would say "Apple has no real competition" regardless if they've only ever used an iPhone or not. The Smartphone market is arguably one of the most competitive markets. I guess Apples strategy to lock people into the ecosystem really has paid off. VW and Toyota sell way more cars than most other manufactures, would you say they have no competition?

iPhone for those who do not want to tinker with their phones.

When I unbox an android phone, I set it and forget it. I'm not a tinker-er.
One thing Apple does well, is integration. If you have multiple apple devices, it's a no brainer. That part, they have mastered pretty well.

Wow... you really don't get it, do you... Apple has no real competition, OTHER THAN SAMSUNG, in the HIGH END (think premium) smartphone market. It's a simple fact....

Cars are a different kettle of fish, as there are numerous "classes" and while Toyota and VW sell the most, other companies still sell tons... talk about comparing Apples to Oranges.... or in this case, Apple to VW :)

Does this pricing factor in mass production, wholesale pricing? This seems to be the cost for the hardware of a single unit, not factoring in that Apple is ordering in the neighborhood of a hundred million units. I suppose it's all relative when you tack on R&D and marketing costs.

$443 not really. I would be surprised if the raw cost was even close $43. By raw cost, I mean the actual cost to fabricate all the parts and assemble not including equipment.

Ever wonder where these numbers come from. Most of it is intellectual property rights, marketing, and admin cost to run the business. In the end it probably cost 443 to make it, but it is for intangible bull crap.

Love how this is always left out. I am sure this comment gonna get hated on. I hope some of you actually comprehend this and put a little thought into what I just said.

Well, had you read the actual report, what they did was tear down the iPhone and find the cost of each individual part. They ESTIMATED how much it would have cost Apple to purchase them - and then added them up.... Hardware-wise, they are probably pretty close. My argument is that they have no real value for R & D - We know Apple has poured BILLIONS into developing their own silicon... how do you add those costs to the equation?

I read it, and I seen each and every item inflated. Biased as always when it comes to Apple.

Apple Is one of the worst companies when it comes to service. They make everything the customers fault. Blind is 95% of their customer base. They are totally ok with being screwed over.

This guys points out everything I feel is wrong with Crapple.

Ok.... how are any items inflated? I think most people saw this as anti-Apple to begin with.... the profit margin is pretty large at $443.... care to give any evidence for your opinion?

And service is irrelevant for the purposes of this thread...

Apples are selling them cheap then. Selling retailers will take half the sale amount. Apple need to pay R&D,insurance, and making some profits for share holder. Plus they not make billions of US dollar selling user data and locations for advertising, so have to make it on sales. Many profit coming from App sale too however. These devive are great computer and camera that can make calls too. Not bad for the money I say. It just seem expensive because the competition is making their profit from other means.
