Access denied

I have Windows Vista. Recently installed the new Explorer 9. Program froze too many times so I removed Explorer 9. At this time I seem to have one problem. When I access my local newspaper site from my favorites I get 401 access denied. Presently, I am back on my Explorer 8. This is the only change I have made recently other than the normal software updates. Any suggestions?
