What just happened? For those who don’t know, or pretend not to know, what Bang Bros is, it’s a popular adult film production company. Yesterday, it made a surprise acquisition: PornWikiLeaks.com, a website that focused on doxing adult performers and sharing their personal information online. Why would the firm make such a purchase? To shut PWL down and set its hard drives on fire, literally.

PornWikiLeaks contained over 15,000 performers’ real names, and in some cases also included phone numbers, address, and even the names of their family members, all information stolen from anyone who had posted it.

This type of harassment obviously didn’t sit well with Bang Bros, so it bought PornWikiLeaks with the sole intention of shutting it down and destroying all the data it held. Going to the site’s homepage now brings up a message from its new owner that reads: “For too long, this site has unfortunately been a resource for hate, lies, and sensitive information.”

“While shutting this site down doesn’t purge the internet of all possible ties to real names and what not, it does make it one less place to harbor and find these things easily. A forum that had 300,000 posts on it, most of them negative and hate-filled, has now disappeared.”

The company included a link to a YouTube video that shows what it did with the data. As you can see in the clip below, it involved gathering all the hard drives together in a pile, pouring flammable liquid over them, and setting the whole thing on fire.

Additionally, archived versions of the site have been excluded from The Wayback Machine, presumably at Bang Bros' request.

It’s unclear exactly how much Bang Bros paid to acquire PWL, but many in the industry have tweeted their gratitude for removing the site.

Doxing of any kind should be classed as a felony. I don't care if you're doxing a gamer you're losing a game against, your worst enemy, or even a porn worker. Unfortunately, the only way this will truly end is if someone doxes someone and said doxing results in actual deaths.

Why burn though, that's almost the worst possible way to try and destroy data. Put those drives in a nice large metal shredder instead :D

What, and we don't think there were backups made of this site? how naive of them. Give it a little while and it will pop up under a different name some place else, would have been better off burning the money used to purchase the site. .... lol

If you think the people that run these sites are honest (yes that includes Bang Brothers) then I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you.

They DID buy the site. How do you think they got the drives? As for backups, well...who knows. I just find it ironic how all these people are so concerned about the privacy of "sex workers". Maybe the sex workers should be more concerned about their life choices.

Non nørds LOL real IT s uses ccleaner eraser deleting progress it really does the job. so many hdd they destroyed for nothing LOL --//---- forever. I I must far cry a little more LOL. forgot about (duke nuke m disks from cd usb network.

Interesting to see that Bang Bros is doing so well that they have money to throw away. I'm not referring to the purchase of the site, but the burning of those hard drives. That's just plain old stupid. Server or Enterprise drives usually sell for a premium because they need to be more reliable than regular drives. A secure erase or "low level format" is all it takes to destroy the data permanently without damaging the drives. Anyway, I guess they were trying to go for shock value or whatever. I give their attempt 1 out of 5 brown stars.

Here is the problem. A "dox" is normally just a collection of publicly available data colated into a single spot. You want to make the publishing of public data a felony. This would make anyone that helps to distribute yellow pages a felon, and anyone that works at facebook/google/ece a felon. Apparently those so terrifyingly scared of "doxing" have no idea their address, phone number, and swathes of personal data are freely available to anyone that finds their full name, as this data is published by the government and has been for over a century now. The hacking of private data and making it public is ALREADY illegal, making it SUPER ILLEGAL wont change a damn thing, just like making shooting someone a crime is redundant when murder/homicide are already on the books.

Here's a better idea, if you dont want to be doxed, dont put your personal data on the internet where the public can see it. This is like getting mad that someone is sending you dozens of pizzas when you posted your full name and address on the bumper of your car and broadcast it to the world.

Also, dont do porn if you dont want to be "doxed". Porn producers are required to maintain proof of age, which will require your full name, and retain it as long as the company is in business

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Protection_and_Obscenity_Enforcement_Act

So if you do porn, you are one leak away from having your name out there. BangBros didnt buy this company to protect its workers, it did it to protect itself. They are required to secure their data, leaks traced back to their horrible data practices would likely drive them out of business. What better way to cover your tracks then buy the site that host leaks and destroy it?

That's a very American eco-friendly solution...

For burning electronics you should really get lifetime jail term.

I'm not arguing that it was good what that scumbagish site did - of course not. I just pointing out obvious criminal waste of precious resources and spewing toxic fumes which will stay in the atmosphere for thousand of years. Not the time and place for full toxicity analyses, but it is quite fun activity if you're into particle decay chemistry.

Those hard drives should’ve been formatted and sold to people at like 200 dollars :(

Right, you have all the overblown indignation of a typical SJW.. As much pollution as setting fire to those drives caused, is easily matched and surpassed daily, by any factor of city life, trash collection, or industrial process.

Right.

The imbeciles that are setting fire to the Amazon rain forest are doing infinitely more damage than a couple of fools burning HDDs. They should be sterilized so that they can't produce another even more inbred generation of themselves.

If you want to rail on about a cause, .try and find one that actually matters, so we don't have to listen to a bunch of snowflake drivel.

I don't quite understand why anyone would be interested in the personal details of a porn actor unless it was to harass or stalk them in which case the site 'doxing' or whatever it's called, would be guilty of aiding and abetting, or inciting a crime surely?
I can only imagine that it was set up by group of self righteous religious folk - how nasty they are. Well done Bang Bros, even if you did it for your own protection. I wonder if the company was 'persuaded' to sell?

Damn, all those addresses and phone numbers gone. How will honest people now find professionals to help them spice up their bachelor parties? Wait... maybe they are listed on LinkedIn?
