Alternative pc gaming controllers/cod4

Maybe this is another stupid ? but is it possible to use a playstation style/type of controller to play on the pc. assuming it was usb. I have been playing Call of duty 4 online & I spend most of my time respawning. Maybe I just cant get my fingers around the keyboard fast enough, like I am lethargic. maybe my computor is to blame.I did reasonably well in singleplayer but the pros online are schoolin' me hardy. any help would be appreciated.

Playing with a controller is really a much harder than keyboard&mouse. I didnt try my ps2 controller with cod4 but its good for arcade style games. FPS games are for pc gamers. I hate console fps games.. and if you have never played a fps with controller you should really like to respawn (which you dont)
