Anthropic says it will sue Pentagon over supply chain risk label

Perhaps it depends on which news sources you listen to? Al Jazeera will probably be biased in one direction and American news sources will be similarly biased in the other direction.
Al Jazeera is one source I read on a daily basis, for the very reason you mention -- I've seen nothing in their reporting to contradict my statements.

America and Israel...in the past year, have committed genocide in Palestine...
In your opinion.
...and overthrown the governments in 2 countries.
And the people of both countries have rejoiced to throw off the yoke of those oppressive regimes.

Quite simply, because what a company does to the DoD, it can do to the suppliers who provide equipment, supplies, and services to the DoD.

In the case of Anthropic, this isn't some remote possibility. If Anthropic claims "moral principles" prevent it from directly supporting certain military operations, why would it not also have a problem indirectly supporting those same operations, through the civilian contract chain?

Yes. So does the government. If it doesn't wish to do business with a particular vendor, it doesn't have to.

Now you're getting it. That's exactly what the federal government is doing here. Or -- to be precise -- just the US military.
Nope, they are throwing a fit and designating a company a supply chain risk! The govt /military does not need to do business with a particular vendor but why designate them a supply chain risk? Just go with another vendor and lay the matter to rest.

The following article gives the time line. The parts covering the 24th Feb to the 28th shows that the discussions were still going on when the bombing of Tehran took place.

In your opinion [Israeli genocide in Palestine].
and in the opinion of the International Court of Justice, Amnesty International, Al Jazeera and most European countries. The German government didn't agree it was genocide but then it has strong business ties with Israel however 60% of the German people strongly felt it was genocide.

And the people of both countries have rejoiced to throw off the yoke of those oppressive regimes.
In Venezuela, the opposition leader María Corina Machado has pushed for democracy in her country and was widely supported. Trump ignored her, then called Venezuela a "US Protectorate" before placing his own candidate in charge (one that will give Venezuelan oil to America). Maybe that's democracy to you but I'm fairly sure your founding fathers are turning in their graves.

No, you failed to read your own link. The world 'concludes' is rather conclusive. The statements made by Oman's FM on the 27th were in regards to the concluded talks.

"February 26 – A third round of nuclear talks concludes in Geneva."

Now you're not simply wrong, but outright lying. Venezuela is currently being led by Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro's Vice President. And Maria Corina Machado wasn't "ignored" by Trump -- she was in fact so ecstatic over Trump's actions that she gave her own Nobel Peace Prize to him, saying he had accomplished more for Venezuelan democracy than anyone:

Nope, they are throwing a fit and designating a company a supply chain risk! The govt /military does not need to do business with a particular vendor but why designate them a supply chain risk?
It's a simple question with a simple answer. Military vendors must be able to reliably deliver products and services. If Anthropic doesn't allow its products to support certain military operations, these vendors cannot perform their role. Had the federal government "been throwing a fit", they'd have banned Anthropic from the entire government supply chain, not simply the military.

I think you altered that quote by changing the comma into a full stop. The full sentence was:

A third round of nuclear talks concludes in Geneva, with mediator Oman saying “significant progress” was made and more discussions would be held the following week in Vienna..

It appears you guys had just finished the 3rd quarter of talks when you killed them all.

Now you're not simply wrong, but outright lying. Venezuela is currently being led by Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro's Vice President. I don't lie and it's quite poor that you accuse others of such things.

Machado gave the prize to Trump as a reward for removing the old dictator and with the expectation of taking her place as the new leader. Trump then dismissed her by saying she was not respected inside Venezuela and replaced her with someone that was prepared to export Venezuelan oil to America. Having a foreign aggressor place a sympathetic leader into power in order to extract your minerals is not a great leap forwards in democracy.

The US -- and the rest of the world -- has had these talks with Iran for more than 25 years, with the same result. Whatever Iran agrees to, they still continue their nuclear weapons program.

It's been widely reported that this round of talks concluded with Iran refusing to give up its enrichment facilities (despite being offered nuclear fuel free forever). Iran also refused to stop progressing its ballistic missile programs and refused to stop supporting its proxy terror networks. You can only talk so long before you must take action.

You say that, then repeat this lie again. Trump didn't "replace" Machado, nor has Trump "placed in charge" of Venezuela anyone. Maduro's second-in-command runs Venezuela at present.

Every time I spend the time proving why your points are incorrect you just ignore things and come up with another crazy justification for this war. So far I've covered:
1) Genocide by Israel
2) US state sponsored terrorism
3) Killing the Iranian leadership in the middle of the current talks

I think at some point you just have to ask yourself whether you might just be wrong. I appreciate that you don't want a rogue state like Iran developing nuclear weapons but then Israel has nuclear weapons, is run by a war criminal and has attacked 2 of it's neighbours. It also refuses to let anyone inspect it's nuclear arsenal.

It was stupid thing to attack Iran. I appreciate that folk like Pete Hegseth will keep telling you that you're winning but it's inevitable you'll lose this war. Iran is a major manufacturer of drones and missiles. They cost $20K each but cost multiple $m to shoot down. You have to shoot them down because they can destroy all the oil facilities across the state meaning global oil supply stops. They might also hit desalination plants making the whole region uninhabitable. Unfortunately you can't destroy their bases with aircraft as they're dug into the mountains and unfortunately putting American boots on the ground will mean huge loses. Also, are Americans happy to die for Israel's cause?

This should have been settled with diplomacy but now you've killed their government and religious leader during the middle of the peace talks I suspect most folk in Iran won't rest until they have their revenge.

You've proven nothing; you keep repeating the absurd lie that "Trump put someone in charge" of Venezuela.
So far I've covered: 1) Genocide by Israel
Why bring that up, when you scream bloody murder over our stopping the genocide in Iran? Here's an idea: if you - and your country - feel so strongly about Israel, grow a set and stop this purported genocide.

By your logic, since Israel has nukes, we should allow the entire world to develop them.

Yes, Israel has nukes. If I'd been politically active in 1965, I'd have advocated against that. But the fact remains that Israel's had them 60 years now. Nor does Israel finance multiple terror networks around the globe like Iran.

This should have been settled with diplomacy
25 years of diplomacy failed to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions. We had three full rounds of talks just this year alone.

I appreciate that folk like Pete Hegseth will keep telling you that you're winning but it's inevitable you'll lose this war.
Tell you what. I'll bet any sum you care to wager that this turns out false. Techspot can hold the stakes. I'll even give you 2:1 odds. Deal?

Well if the DoD wants to change the contract terms after the fact then Anthropic has a right to not agree to it. DoD can just cancel the contract and move on to another vendor. There is no need to designate it a supply chain risk. Designating a company as a supply chain risk consequence is a Govt ban. They really didn't need to designate it a supply chain risk. Glad to see Anthropic has filled a lawsuit against this with briefs from Gemini lead and others in support. This govt needs to be designated a ego maniac risk for personal vendetta. They don't like it if they can't bully their way to get what they want.

The DoD didn't change the contract terms. Contracts cannot be unilaterally altered, and if the DoD had tried, Anthropic could have sued for wrongful termination.

There is no need to designate it a supply chain risk. Designating a company as a supply chain risk consequence is a Govt ban.
It's not a ban from the federal government; just for US military use. Thousands of other firms are similarly labelled a supply chain risk. To sell products and services to the US military, you must be able to reliably and predictably supply the military's needs. Anthropic has shown they refuse to do so.

So how is it a supply chain risk if the DoD can opt to just not buy their services? No one is forcing them to. Simple. They wanted to make an example and destroy their business.

So how is it a supply chain risk if the DoD can opt to just not buy their services?
It's really very simple. If a DoD contractor is dependent on Anthropic's tools and Anthropic does to them what they did to the DoD, that contractor is likely to become at least temporarily unavailable to fill their commitments. That is, in fact, the entire reason the supply-chain risk designation exists ... exactly for situations like this.

They wanted to make an example and destroy their business.
Wrong again! If they'd have wanted to destroy their business, they'd have banned the entire government from using Anthropic products.

The genocide that Israel committed was in Palestine and it was for this that Netanyahu has been branded a war criminal by the International court of Justice. He will be arrested if he steps foot in any civilised country.

25 years of diplomacy failed to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions. We had three full rounds of talks just this year alone.
I guess you guys got bored before the following weeks concluding talks and just bombed and killed them, their religious leader and a girls school. Do you think they'll ever come to the table again?

Tell you what. I'll bet any sum you care to wager that this turns out false. Techspot can hold the stakes. I'll even give you 2:1 odds. Deal?
Your comment was regards me thinking that Israel and America might not win this war. I honestly doubt that TS holds bets but first you have to state what constitutes a win for either side in this war. If we're to believe Trump and Hegseth then they say this isn't even a war and also that they've already won.

Will Iran back down? The attack on the 28th Feb probably feels a lot like Pearl Harbour to the Iranians. The fact you were in the middle of talks at the time makes it worse. You killed their religious leader as well so that's a bit like killing the pope at the same time. They're obviously not going to back down. I believe they started small scale drone attacks on Tel Aviv last night.

Who will win? Iran manufactures Shaheed drones and is estimated to hold 10000 of them. They cost $20k each but it costs many $m to shoot each one down. If they don't shoot them down then they'll first destroy your "iron dome" defence system (I understand 3 hitech radar system were destroyed in the past couple of days costing $1b each and that there's now only one left in the area). Then they'll probably hit infrastructure like power. Then they'll take out oil refineries causing oil prices to sky rocket. Then, depending on how pissed they are, they'll take out the desalination plants across the gulf making many countries uninhabitable. Would that constitute a win?

America might not want to put boots on the ground but it's the only way of stopping Iran and will lose 1000's of soldiers. Iran is a little like Afghanistan except the population truly hates Americans and has been preparing for war for the last 20 years.

So who are the winners? It won't be the American people or Israel or Iran. Ukraine will benefit as Iran won't be exporting drones and missiles to Russia. Trump gets 25% of his funding from the Israeli Miriam Adelson and she's already promised him another $250m if he runs for a 3rd term.

I just saw 2 videos on YT on the attacks on Tel Aviv last night. The leading comments gave a fair indication of world opinion for Israel's situation:
* Never before have I felt such lack of empathy for a nation
* It's a strange war when a country sends so many soldiers to fight for another country.
* What goes around COMES AROUND
* War seems easy when you think the other side can't attack back.

(BBC link omitted)
Do you even read links before posting them? Delcy Rodriguez was Maduro's Vice President: she assumed power when Maduro was removed. In what alternate universe do you believe Trump "placed her in power"?

"...in 2013, Maduro revived Rodríguez's career after Chávez died of cancer and he took over. After Maduro promoted Rodríguez to vice president in 2018, she gained control over large swaths of Venezuela's oil economy...As she amassed more power, she crushed internal rivals...In her de-facto role as Venezuela's chief operating officer, Rodríguez proved...."

What's truly hilarious is that, had Trump done what you demand and remove Rodriguez to install his own pick, that would have been what you accuse him of. Instead, Trump is currently trying to convince Rodriguez to hold free and fair elections in Venezuela. And if she continues to refuse?

"Trump threatened Rodríguez on Sunday morning, saying, “if she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.”

Now please, stop the lies.

I guess you guys got bored before the following weeks concluding talks and just bombed and killed them, their religious leader and a girls school. Do you think they'll ever come to the table again?
Who cares? They no longer have a military, much less a nuclear program. BTW, the facts have since surfaced about those "talks" you claim were working so well:

"...Witkoff offered a behind-the-scenes account of the U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations. He said Iranian representatives opened by asserting an "inalienable right to enrich" nuclear fuel...Witkoff said Iranian negotiators declared they controlled roughly 460 kilograms of enriched uranium to about 60% and that this material could potentially be further enriched toward weapons-grade levels in about a week to 10 days. He explained that enrichment beyond about 20% serves no civilian purpose and is associated with weaponization...Iran’s negotiators told U.S. officials that the United States would not obtain through diplomacy what it could not achieve militarily..."

Will Iran back down? The attack on the 28th Feb probably feels a lot like Pearl Harbour to the Iranians.
So you believe Iran might respond as did the US did after Pearl Harbor: convert to a war footing, destroy the US navy and invades our shores? Are these the fantasies you concern yourself with late at night?

They're "Shahed" drones, and we've already shot down several with anti-aircraft fire (at a net cost of $500 a kill), and Israel's rumored to have killed one with Iron Beam, at a cost of about $2 in electric power.

So far the score is US: 1380, Iran: 7. But you keep rooting for the terrorists, k?

But you keep rooting for the terrorists, k?
It's not difficult to see who are the bad guys here. In the past 2 years Israel has sent parcel bombs (via pagers) to all the individual members of the government of a neighbouring country. You've committed genocide in Gaza. You've set up 270 illegal settlements in Palestine then moved in half a million Jewish settlers despite repeatedly being told to leave by the International Court of Justice. You bombed the government of Iran during the middle of peace talks and then killed their spiritual leader. You also obliterated a girls nursery school in Tehran killing 170 children. It's no small wonder your own leader has also been labelled a war criminal.

Why lie? Israel didn't "send" pagers to anyone. Nor were they sent to "members of the government". Hezbollah is identified as a terrorist organization by the entire Western world. Stop defending them.

"Hezbollah ordered 5,000 new pagers from B.A.C., through an intermediary, and distributed them to its operatives....On 17 September, 2024, some 3,000 of these exploded..."

I'm also curious why you fail to acknowledge that Israel entered Gaza in response to the Oct 7 attacks:

"The attacks [by Hamas] began with a barrage of at least 4,300 rockets launched into Israel, Hamas militants breached the Gaza–Israel barrier, attacking military bases and massacring civilians in 21 communities... In total, 1,195 people were killed by the attacks ... 364 civilians were killed while they were attending the Nova music festival and many more wounded. About 250 civilians were taken hostages to the Gaza Strip. Dozens of cases of rape and sexual assault were reported..."

Edit: Iran's new "Supreme Leader" just announced he's going to continue attacking civilian ships until the US closes all its military bases in the Middle East. Nice neighbor, eh?

You bombed the government of Iran during the middle of peace talks
The "peace" talks failed, as I demonstrated above. Iran refused to give up its nuclear weapons programme. FAFO.

It's no small wonder your own leader has also been labelled a war criminal.
Not by anyone with the IQ above that of a boiled turnip.
