Apple buys rights to Carpool Karaoke for Apple Music series

  1. Apple has purchased the rights to Carpool Karaoke, a segment that airs regularly during The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, with plans to turn it into a video series for Apple Music.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple has ordered 16 episodes of Carpool Karaoke that will be posted weekly for subscribers of Apple Music. It's unlikely that Corden will host the series, and there's no word at this stage on when the series will premiere.

By purchasing Carpool Karaoke, Apple gain a series that's already very popular among internet viewers. Each episode regularly gets tens of millions of views on YouTube, and this success (along with its music theme) would have been very attractive to Apple as it attempts to increase its Music subscriber base.

For those that aren't aware, Carpool Karaoke is a series where James Corden drives around a celebrity in his car while singing popular songs. Most guests on the segment are musicians, such as Adele or The Red Hot Chili Peppers, however the show has featured other prominent figures such as Michelle Obama.

Apple is also currently working on a reality TV series called Planet of the Apps, which is set to air sometime in 2017. This show should be interesting for those familiar with the app development cycle, but it probably won't carry the same wide appeal as Carpool Karaoke.

No... I've enjoyed these. If Corden isn't in them, they aren't worth watching.
