In brief: Smartphone vendors have been in a constant state of flux as it relates to shipments over the past several quarters. But when it comes to revenue and profit, Apple has firmly established itself as the market leader.

Counterpoint Research in its latest market report has charted manufacturers’ progress in shipments, revenue and profit since the first quarter of 2019. Since that time, major players have jockeyed for position in terms of shipment share. In all but one quarter, Samsung finished on top, but the battle for second place and beyond was very fluid.

Looking at revenue share and operating profit, however, we see that Apple has been able to maintain a safe distance from its competitors at the top of the list.

In Q2 2021, Apple managed to capture 75 percent of the overall handset market operating profit and 40 percent of revenue despite accounting for just 13 percent of global handset shipments. As Counterpoint highlights, that’s still lower than its peak in Q4 2020 when Apple grabbed 86 percent of the profit and half of all revenue.

In terms of profit, Samsung has consistently held the number two spot behind Apple. Such has also been the case in terms of revenue, save for two quarters when Huawei trumped Samsung for second place.

Speaking of Huawei, the company’s fall following US sanctions is clearly illustrated in all three categories. This helped open the doors for other Chinese smartphone makers to make a move including Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

Wow! The ISheep's stupidity, inflated sense of social status, and validation of the, "fool and his (or her) money" adage, nicely graphed our for us. Thankx Shawn.

EXCELLENT Work Apple.

You've made me proud to be a shareholder for all these years.
Well eventually I'd cash out.
Apple built itself a house of cards with Jobs era marketing, and that bubble will eventually pop.
You can tell after the embarrassment of the Mac Pro the switch to M1 makes them a king of performance metrics when performance per watt is actually valued outside that little bubble their computers are worthless.

Sadly, they still enjoy a better user experience overall. But that's about the only positive.

True enough. But we can place the blame for a poorer user experience squarely on Android, since oftentimes, it's the users "shooting themselves in the foot", so to speak.

I will grant that iOS is better, "vaccinated against stupidity".. OCD brought on by cellphone addiction, leads to some very bad choices made.overall.

The truth of the matter is, I actually recommended an iPhone, to a 50 year old, coming off of a flip-phone, as his best option.

You certainly don't need to see the most when you gouge everyone that buys ..... just ask the pharma's and they will explain it to you.

Yeah, we're getting lobbying from, (most likely supported by big pharma), PACs in the run up to the NJ elections.

To wit, Congressman Andy Kim is going to ruin NJ's research economy, by voting for Nancy Pelosi's, "Socialist drug program".

Call Andy Kim and tell him to vote no to Socialism :poop:..

The real Apple sheep are the ones who go around hating Apple and calling users stupid for buying Apple products. I mean these people are literally following the herd without checking the facts.

And the fact is iPhones are far superior to their competition. I’d rather be a “foolish Apple sheep” with an iPhone than some nobody with some poorly supported Android device.

If only Google had made Android proprietary and not open source. They could have ensured the user base get updates, have a better experience and they could have prevented cheap Chinese manufacturers from flooding the market and obsoleting the expensive Android devices from the likes of Samsung and LG etc.

However it’s unfashionable to be against open source so I guess that makes me a hipster?
