The Apple iPad 2 goes on sale internationally today in 25 additional countries. iPad 2 will be available at Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers at 5:00 PM local time, and online through the Apple Store (www.apple.com) beginning at 1:00 AM.

In addition to the US, the list of countries where the iPad 2 is now available includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. It was supposed to be 26 new countries today but Apple delayed the launch in Japan because of the earthquake and resulting tsunami.

Apple confirmed plans to have yet another wave of rollouts next month. All iPad 2 models will be available in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, and even more countries in April.

"While competitors are still struggling to catch up with our first iPad, we've changed the game again with iPad 2," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. "We're experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can't wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone's patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone."

The iPad 2 is one-third thinner than the first-generation model at just 8.8mm thick. It weighs 1.3 pounds, making it lighter than the original iPad, which weighed 1.5 pounds. The device features a faster dual-core A5 processor which offers up to 9 times faster graphics processing, rear and front facing cameras for recording video, taking photos, and FaceTime video chat. Despite these extras, the power consumption remains the same, according to Apple, and the device sports the same 10-hour battery life.

If you already have one, tell your international friends more about it in the comments below. If you're deciding whether or not you should go out and buy one yourself, check our review which was posted just today.

This is why I'm anti-apple. Hubris, exaggeration, all laced with a d@mnable assumption that everyone wants their products and can't wait for the next one. And stupidity, for thinking that just by releasing statements like this he's going to change anyone's mind.

They are a marketing machine but there are enough app makers buying into it. You can't fault the quality of the ipad 2 either. It just doesnt do what I want but for some its spot on. Not everyone owns one but if you want a decent tablet right now and don't know or want to know anything about computers then the ipad is for you.
