Apple didn’t release a “c” version of its current generation iPhone. Instead, the company elected to make the standard iPhone 6 its “budget” offering while the iPhone 6 Plus was delegated as the premium product.

To many (myself included), this conveyed that Apple had decided to discontinue its plastic experiment (likely due to poor sales). New images from Chinese parts supplier Future Supplier, however, suggest Apple may be planning to bring back its plastic budget model as an iPhone 6c later this year.

The images show a device that looks a lot like the iPhone 5c although there are subtle differences that state otherwise. For starters, the new images show a pill-shaped rear LED flash design versus the simple circular design on the 5c. A quick look at the bottom of the purported new phone also reveals additional speaker grill holes not found on the 5c.

Reports from a week ago suggest the Cupertino-based company is planning to launch three new iPhones this year. The first two will be follow-ups to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and will likely carry the “s” moniker for "speed." The third was said to be a new 4-inch device which, in hindsight, is probably the 6s we’re seeing here.

As always, keep in mind that these are unconfirmed leaks. That means Apple’s plans could change between now and later this year or these images could be little more than impressive fakes.

I remember Apple launching a plastic phone a couple of years back although I don't remember the model. I also remember it not selling all that well either mainly because of it's extortionist price and poor specs. If they launch another what makes them think it'll be more successful? This story is most likely an April fools joke.

If they put 5S parts in it, they better increase the RAM to 2GB because 1GB is definitely reaching its limits with each OS update.
