wasn't sure where to put this post but ask.com has somehow managed to insert itself as my home page. I tried internet options in control panel. typed in google.com with no luck. ask.com continues to boot up as if I had done nothing. I erased ask.com from the "search results" section and still nothing changes. I set google as the default home page-nothing works. Is there anyway to get home page changed to google. thanks in advance
Browser is Mozilla

Internet options would change only Windows Internet Explorer browser. Do you have Firefox and if so which version? It's not clear to me but did you try changing the home page under Tools > Options > Main?

Once ask.com is on the system, it gives you a Toolbar, a search feture and a few other entries. Have you tried taking all Ask.com related entries off of Startup, then uninstalling it?

Easiest to boot into Safe Mode:
Start> Run> msconfig> enter> Selective Startup> Startup tab> UNCHECK all Ask.com entries> Apply> OK.

Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs> UNINSTALL all Ask.com entries.

Reboot into Normal Mode: NOTE: you will get a nag message that you can ignore and close after checking 'don't show this message again.' Stay in Selective Startup.

Now reset the homepage to whatever you want. If you still cannot, follow this:

Internet Explorer 6 (presumably 7 too)
1. Go to Control Panel in Windows itself
2. Click on Internet Properties
3. Click on General
4. Click on Search settings
5. Set new default and delete ask.com
Firefox
1. Open a new tab or window.
2. Type “about:config” and hit enter, this brings up the all powerful settings of Firefox.
3. Agree to the warning that you could mess things up
4. Find keyword.url, you probably should not change anything else
5. Double click and change keyword.url string to something else like http://www.google.com/search?q=
6. Note that you cannot just put in the web site domain, you must put in the parameters before your search query. So find your favorite search engine, do a search and grab all the text up to your actual search results. So that a search for “test” in Google returns this, http://www.google.com/search?q=test, but all you need to input into the keyword.url field is http://www.google.com/search?q=
And a note for the future: look carefully at any screen where you are doing a download. Many are coming with these nuisance Toolbars and programs already checked. It's easier to uncheck there than to get rid of it once on the system.
