Best Buy is slashing $200 off the price of a new MacBook Air now through January 26. If you’re interesting in scoring a big discount on one of the hottest notebooks around, you’d better act fast as we are told that supplies are limited.

The big box retailer is selling the entry-level 11.6-inch MacBook Air with 64GB of storage for $799, down from the usual $999 entry price. Those needing a bit more storage in the same form factor can get the 128GB model, regularly priced at $1,099, for just $899 through Saturday.

The larger 13.3-inch version with 128GB of flash storage can be had for $999 instead of the usual $1,199 while the same unit with 256GB of storage will sell for $1,299 while supplies last. The Winter Doorbuster Days sale is available both online and in stores, we’re told.

It’s rare to see sales on Apple merchandise, especially at such a discount. That is because Apple typically prevents retailers from offering these types of sales. But as Mashable points out, it is possible that Cupertino permitted the offer much like they allowed Walmart to sell the iPhone 5 and iPad at a discount during the holiday buying season.

It’s worth noting that Best Buy doesn’t offer Apple’s AppleCare plans. That means if you are interested in warranty coverage for your new MacBook Air, your only option is to sign up for Best Buy’s GeekSquad coverage… or simply purchase the MacBook Air elsewhere.

Or buy Apple Care from someone else. As long as you buy it during the first year, you don't need to buy it along with the machine.

Of course, if you're intelligent, you're going to buy a SquareTrade warranty with accidental damage coverage.

Oh darn! All I have to drive at the moment is a motorcycle, it just snowed, and it's 20 degrees out. It seems I'm going to miss out on the "opportunity of a lifetime". I'm going to crawl into a bottle of rum and sulk.....:p

A laptop for 800 dollars with 64 GB hard drive? how does ANYONE live with that, cause I sure as heck couldnt live with even twice of that.

Considering I can get an HP Envy 14" laptop with similar or better specs for less, no thanks. Apple tax is too high.
